Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Hansen.
Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went to school for esthetics in 2007, and immediately after graduating I went to school for massage therapy. I’ve been working in the industry ever since. I spent the most formative years of my career at a prominent salon and spa here in the Twin Cities, where I learned so much and made lifelong connections over those 13 years. About 3 years ago I decided to take the leap and open my own business, Prema Day Spa. It has been one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Three years in, I never could have imagined the level of success and achievement I would experience — it’s honestly the best decision I’ve ever made for my career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely had its ups and downs, particularly on the business side of things. Imposter syndrome was huge for me early on. I’ve always felt most confident in my treatment room with my clients, but stepping into the role of business owner was a whole different challenge. What helped me push through was my clients — their feedback and loyalty reminded me that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Investing in continuing education also gave me the confidence to keep growing. Every year I learn a little more about things like marketing and finances, and it gets easier. You just have to trust your training and keep going.

Prema Day Spa is a boutique spa experience built around one core idea: nothing is one-size-fits-all. I specialize in completely custom crafted massage therapy and advanced skincare, tailored to each individual client. On the massage side, I am certified in Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy, Myofascial Release, Cupping, Prenatal massage, and I am also a Reiki Master. For skincare, I hold certifications with Elleebana for lash lifting and brow laminations, ProCell for Microchanneling, and Dermaplane Pro for dermaplaning — offering everything from waxing to chemical peels. I am especially known for my extra gentle waxing services. What I’m most proud of is the environment I’ve created — a space where clients feel truly seen and cared for, not just another appointment on the books.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was a gymnast as a kid, and nothing made me happier! I think that love of movement and using my body creatively never really left me. It shows up in my work every day — massage and bodywork are deeply physical and intuitive arts — and outside of the spa I carry it forward through aerial as a hobby. It all connects in a way I never would have expected as a little girl on the mat.
