Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Riedemann of Oak Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Riedemann

Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Family and I began racing bmx when I was 6 years old in 2004, while we rode our parents ran Rum River Bmx, as well my dad Kevin announced the races at the track! For 20 years we traveled the nation racing different national, and world events achieving 23 state championships, 4 time world finalist with 2 being world champion titles, 14 time top ten national age group titles ranging from 9th to 1st. In 2018 what I thought was the peak of my career I ended up with my 4th collarbone break I healed up from that then I got a life threatening concussion. It put things in perspective for me and I ended up ending my bmx career! I moved out of my home town into an apartment with my now fiancé! I got a job in the trades as a wood framer! 5 ish years go by and I decided to break out the bike again. I went to a local practice on a random weeknight. It was different! Different people running sign ups, new generation of riders! A new announcer! It’s a whole different world. I slowly came back and attended a few practices hear and there but I ended up joining a Local bmx team called Black Widow BMX that was ran by Dan he and I have known each other since I was a kid and I loss a bet back in the day and on the line was if I ever came back to bmx I would be on Black Widow Bmx. So I am a man of my word even 5+ years later so I joined within 6 months of being back I went to my first national in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I ended up doing better then I thought and ended up with a few podium finishes! This is when my fiancé and I started saying it was the “comeback year” that national we where talking and we thought how cool it would be to win it all! By win it all we meant STATE 1, ROC 1, NAG (national age group) 1, WORLD 1! We had another 6 months to get into shape to achieve these things! I won state 1 in August. We traveled to a few more nationals to get points for a race called GRANDS it is hosted in Tulsa Oklahoma every year on thanksgiving weekend! This is where I would have to win ROC 1 and NAG 1, we did just that and wrap up the weekend with a clean sweep. I decided right after grands to go back to school and get my personal training license! We now have three of the four! We have 6 more months til UCI WORLD event! During this time I worked a 40 hours in the union, trained, went to school my fiancé would sit down in our apartment garage and time my sprints and write them down! Everything came down to this one event! May of 2024 we traveled to Rock Hill, South Carolina I raced two bikes for this even. The night before my first race I passed my final exam for my personal training license! my first day was on my cruiser bike I rode this bike only two times prior. I don’t normally race cruiser but everyone convinced me to do it for fun. it had different color parts because I borrowed all of it from a friends lol we had to switch out parts for others due to the fact im 240 pounds and tend to break bike parts this is now called the pawn America bike! I went out there and tried my best I ended up with world 2 on the pawn America bike and I was so happy! I never thought I’d enjoy racing a race and being happy with second place but I was having so much fun! Nothing was on the line it was just go out there and try your best. I did just that! We had two more days till I raced my class bike! This is where the story gets a little crazy! In the morning I got ready and headed to the track I won my first lap and second! My 3rd lap of the day came around and it ended up being the most important lap I had to do out of the whole event! Rain started to move in. The head officials decided to go our sqorz timers that are on our bike to determine the winner! All of the riders knew this could be a option thay could happen if rain was going to happen! I had the fastest lap out of everyone in my class! I was then announced to have won WORLD 1! After worlds my fiancé and I bought a van and opened up our own personal training business called Oak training! We are now full time van lifers and work all around the USA training young athletes! I have never been happier.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it’s had obstacles! Breaking bones, concussions, time commitment I took to training!
