Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Sit.
Hi Tyler, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My friends and I started a United Methodist Church called New City Church. Originally, it was a small group that met in people’s living rooms, but we grew to need our own space. Now, we have two branches (one in South Minneapolis and one in Northeast Minneapolis), and our building is called the New City Center for Healing Justice, and it has become a volunteer-run community center that provides space for dozens of community groups.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The George Floyd Uprisings, COVID-19 pandemic, and shifting political landscape have all created (and continue to create!) challenges for our community. As a community that tries to center marginalized voices, we are especially attuned to how current events impact the margins of society.
As you know, we’re big fans of New City Church. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
New City Church is led mostly by queer people of color, which is almost unheard of in the church world.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I have lived in cities across three different continents, and I still believe that Minneapolis is the best place to live!
