Hi Yasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a dental assistant by trade, problem solver by nature, and kid at heart. When I was a teen, I was a barista for many years and it was my favorite job. I have been working in the dental industry for the last 10 years, but I’ve always felt that if it could pay my bills, I would be a barista again. I had been thinking about starting a mocktail business since early 2020, but since COVID put a stop to large events, I held off. I realized that there was a need in the Muslim community for fun drink at events like weddings, where alcohol is not served.
When I got laid off from my job earlier this year I decided now is the time! While the idea for this business came from only being served water or coffee at Muslim weddings, there are many communities and individuals/families who choose not to drink. This service is a great option to add a fun drink experience at any event. My goal was to provide delicious non-alcoholic beverages and a fun experience. The business has gained a lot of interest and I’m very excited for wedding season.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Any new business if going to have some obstacles. Setting up and running a traveling mocktail service involves a lot of logistical challenges. From transportation to equipment setup and storage, these factors take time to research to get right. Operating in different cities has its challenges as well.
Each city/county has its own regulations and licensing for food and beverage vending. Lastly, getting the recipes down has taken some time, but I can’t say that I haven’t enjoyed it! I recently accidentally created a drink that tastes just like a watermelon Jolly Rancher! That was a fun mistake.
