Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Lipke.
Hi Andrew, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Last summer I spent 12 hours in a truck with my buddy Leon coming home from a vacation in the Black Hills. We spent the greater part of the trip discussing how I could start a business. As a business owner himself, he had a lot of helpful information. By the time I got home I was fully committed and immediately set to work getting an LLC, liability insurance, tools, business cards, etc. by September 1st I was ready to officially open Andrew Lipke Appliance Repair, LLC. Business has grown steadily since then and I’ve been working for many restaurants in the area and doing residential jobs too. I had about 10 years’ experience in restaurant and hotel maintenance in the past so I had a pretty good grasp of the work to begin with.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I deal with are just navigating the daily challenges of running a business like doing my own taxes, collecting late payments, and waiting for parts orders when shipments are delayed. I’m also constantly learning to diagnose and work on new equipment that I haven’t worked on before.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do commercial and residential appliance repair. I specialize in restaurant equipment and maintenance and pride myself on good communication, customer service and reasonable pricing. I’ve always had a good mind for figuring out how things work and have been fixing and working on all types of machines for my whole life.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the beauty of the lake and parks and old architecture of the city. The music scene is the best in the state. I do get frustrated with the cost and availability of housing and the condition of many of the roads.
