Conversations with Brandon Sedas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Sedas

Hi Brandon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my apprenticeship in October of 2017 under Ben Garcia at Fellowship Tattoos in Corpus Christi, Texas. September of August 2022 my wife and I relocated to Burnsville, Minnesota and I’ve been working at Stay Tru Tattoo since. Still learning to get used to the cold as a Texan!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any form of growth requires challenges and patience. Growing up in a military family taught me to adapt to new settings and I knew no one when I had begun, which challenged me to get out of my shell and learn to socialize. Moving to and starting work in Minnesota has thankfully been better than expected, although I do my best to remain optimistic and take every challenge as a lesson to improve in both work and personal life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Within tattooing I’ve been leaning more into Neo-traditional styles while sneaking more elements of realism and abstract. A recent tattoo I created was a rose growing through a woman’s face, which I loved! Learning alittle bit of every style and pulling elements of each into the type of abstract/neo-traditional style has been so rewarding while keeping a strong discipline and respect for what I’ve learned and continue to learn. Tattoos with stipple shading are what I’d consider a “comfort-food” of art as well.
Focusing on outside just tattoos, it’s been great seeing so many of the same faces and growing alongside clients. My mantra for customer service is to make someone as comfortable as possible because I will be poking them at some point!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Don’t let the four leaf clover on my face fool you, keeping my head down and focusing on my art, techinique, and never settling with work has helped me get this far and will only keep going. One of the main influences in tattooing for me is being able to work in a career where you can never stop learning. Luck is never expected, always appreciated.
