Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Henry
Hi cody, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started welding and fabrication for a shop in big lake, mn back in April 2015. After 3.5 years. I decided to take what I learned, add my own artistic style and personal twist to it and decided to start my own business. Codezilla Customs. When I first went on my own I was living in an apartment at the time so I rented out the back of my uncle shop. It wasn’t heated had bad lighting and was limited space but I made it work. You really don’t need much to start a business just a dream and strong drive to fulfill that dream.
After two years I was able to purchase my own house and now work out of my garage at home. I finished/converted it into my shop and I’m loving every second.
“I make really cool stuff out of metal”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road opening a business and going on your own. There is a ton to learn! It also see new challenged all the time but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made and is so worth it!
-Finding and building a good customer base.
-Making sure you have enough funds/capital.
-Not giving up during the hard times and battling self doubt that can arise at times.
-Having good self discipline
-Advertising and getting your business name out there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do all your regular welding, repair, and fabrication work. Along with weld/metal art like benches made out of motorcycle and car parts, lamps made from welded chain, metal roses, etc.
With the addition of my CNC plasma cutting table I also do customs signs, back lit sign, home decor, ornamental guardrails, and other railings, holiday decor, and much more!
I’m known for bringing my own creative and artistic twist to every projects and making one of a kind handmade stuff out of metal.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
There’s a lot of good people and unique small businesses. I also really like having multiple lakes and the Mississippi River near by.
Least like – the traffic and some of the crazy drivers.
