Hi Dyeisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My beauty business was built on one simple belief: beauty is about more than appearance—it’s about confidence, connection, and caring for one another. I started my beauty business “Beaute and Beast”, with a vision that went beyond just building something for myself. From the beginning, I wanted to create a business that could grow into a family legacy. One of my biggest inspirations was the idea of sharing that journey with my younger brother Victor, who is a talented barber.
As I worked to build my business, I saw the opportunity to combine our skills and passions under one brand. While I focused on growing the beauty side, I always imagined creating a space where my brother could bring his barbering expertise, giving our clients a full-service experience and expanding what we could offer together.
For me, this business is about more than beauty—it’s about creating opportunities, supporting family, and building something meaningful that we can be proud of together. Partnering with my younger brother represents trust, teamwork, and a shared commitment to providing exceptional service while building a lasting business for our family and community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Losing my mother in 2018, a year before I started my beauty business changed my life in ways I never expected. She was my biggest supporter—someone who always believed in me, encouraged my dreams, and reminded me that I was capable of achieving more than I imagined. Her faith in me gave me strength, even during the hardest times.
After she passed away, I struggled with the grief of moving forward without the person who had always been in my corner. Starting my beauty business wasn’t easy. At the time, I was working a full-time 9-to-5 job while raising five children. Every day required balance, sacrifice, and determination. I often worked long hours, taking care of my family first and then dedicating evenings, weekends, and any free time I had to building my business.
There were moments when I was exhausted and questioned whether I could keep going, but my children were my greatest motivation. I wanted them to see that with hard work, perseverance, and faith, it’s possible to pursue your dreams no matter the obstacles. I wasn’t just building a business—I was building a future and creating opportunities for my family.
Balancing a career, motherhood, and entrepreneurship taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of believing in myself even when the journey felt overwhelming. Every challenge I overcame became another reminder of why I started. My business is a reflection of the sacrifices I made, the lessons I learned, and the commitment I have to creating a legacy that my children can be proud of. My business wasn’t just about pursuing a career; it became a way to honor my mother’s memory as well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Beaute and Beast, we specialize in professional full body waxing, beauty services (makeup and facials), and brow services being my number one sought out service. I take pride with helping every client that lays on my bed to look and feel their best. Our focus is on providing safe, hygienic, and personalized treatments in a welcoming and comfortable environment. We are committed to delivering exceptional results through attention to detail, high-quality products, and outstanding customer care.
One of the milestones in my journey was the opportunity to share a salon space “Couture Hair by Jaguar”, a well-known stylist that served the city for many years. It has been more than just having a place to work it’s more like a family! We have a great time! It’s also been a chance for me to grow in a professional environment, learn from someone with experience, and build my confidence as a business owner.
Working alongside Jag gives me valuable insight into the beauty industry and allowed me to connect with new clients while continuing to develop my own brand. It reinforced the importance of professionalism, consistency, and providing exceptional service every day.
This experience became another steppingstone in my entrepreneurial journey. It reminded me that every opportunity to learn, collaborate, and grow brings me closer to the vision I have for my business. Each milestone has helped shape not only the business I’m building today but also the legacy I hope to create for my family and the community I serve.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My faith has been one of the greatest sources of strength throughout my entrepreneurial journey. As a spiritual woman of God, I believe He has guided me through every challenge, every setback, and every opportunity. When I faced uncertainty, I leaned on prayer for wisdom, peace, and direction. Listening to spiritual sermons and worship music has been a constant source of encouragement throughout my journey. So often I will have my Pandora music on the Gospel channel and getting busy :).
