Today we’d like to introduce you to Genevieve Wilson.
Hi Genevieve, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in floristry began while I was finishing school, when I had the opportunity to secure an internship at a floral design studio. That’s where I really learned the foundational skills of the trade, working alongside talented designers and honing my craft. After my internship, I started freelancing with some of the top floral designers in the country, working on some incredible, high-profile events. This experience exposed me to a variety of styles and high-end clients, and I was able to learn from the best in the industry.
In 2018, I took the leap and started my own business. What began as a small venture quickly grew into a powerhouse within the Minneapolis metro area. Over the years, we’ve built a reputation for delivering exceptional floral designs and creating truly unforgettable experiences for our clients. The success of the business is the result of a lot of hard work, creativity, and a deep passion for what I do. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited to continue growing and pushing the boundaries of floral design.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. There have been plenty of challenges along the way. For instance, during the first year of my business, I worked out of my garage. That was a huge struggle, to be honest. Not only did I have limited space, but there were also a lot of upfront costs involved in showcasing my work and building a brand. On top of that, I was doing everything myself, from designing the florals to managing logistics—there were a lot of long, back-breaking hours without a team to rely on.
It was a grind, and honestly, it felt like a climb just to get to the point where we’re operating more smoothly today. But every struggle taught me something invaluable about the business, and I’ve used those lessons to build a solid foundation. Now, I’m grateful to have an amazing team and to be in a place where things feel more steady. But I wouldn’t trade those early days—they made me stronger and more prepared for the successes we’re experiencing now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a floral designer based in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area, and I specialize in creating floral designs for weddings and events. Each year, we take on about 70 weddings and events, and that’s something I’m extremely proud of. The volume allows us to really fine-tune our approach and continue to raise the bar for our clients.
One thing that truly excites us is large-scale floral installations, particularly hanging installations. There’s something about working with scale and creating a dynamic, immersive experience that really inspires us. We love the challenge of these big, bold designs, and they’re something we’re known for.
What sets us apart from others in the industry is our focus on mechanics and logistics. We take the time to ensure that our installations are not only visually stunning but also structurally sound. The way we approach logistics behind the scenes—making sure everything is planned out perfectly for installation—really sets us apart. This attention to detail ensures that our designs come to life exactly as envisioned, and that’s a key factor in the success of our installations.
Above all, I’m most proud of how we’ve built a reputation for consistently delivering high-quality designs that not only meet but exceed our clients’ expectations. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our work leave such a lasting impression, whether it’s a lush floral arch, a dramatic ceiling installation, or a romantic table centerpiece.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing most people don’t know about me is that I’m really passionate about gardening. It’s a hobby that allows me to connect with the natural world in a way that helps me bring fresh perspectives to my floral designs.
