Conversations with Geraldy Cuate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geraldy Cuate.

Hi Geraldy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry and work for myself doing something I loved. I remember being in high school and all my friends coming to me so I could do their makeup, or style their hair, or help them pick an outfit to wear. And that kind of stuck with me throughout my teenage years. People who were familiar with me would always connect me with being that way. Always put together, hair, nails, and lashes done. And just being authentic; genuine, raw, and unfiltered. I have a passion for making others feel and see the beauty in themselves that we as individuals often oversee within us and that skill is catered within my industry. I attended Aveda to become an esthetician this spring of 2022 and then picked up on lashing around the same time this year. With being so new in this field and starting from zero with building clientele, recognition, and putting my name, brand and what I stand for out there, my career has begun to flourish very quickly. I started Aluéur Esthetics as way to express my love for all things beauty and to just see my clients’ faces light up after I enhance a feature that is so prominent for most people.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say that the hardest struggle in the beginning was standing out. There are hundreds of people doing what I do every day but I had to think of what I could do different to make someone choose me out of those hundreds and continue to come to me. Whether that was my work, my values, my brand, or who I am as a person. Building genuine connections with my clients to make them feel heard and seen. The thing with the beauty industry is that people come to you and trust you to help them feel like the best version of themselves. We almost refer to ourselves as therapists if I’m being 100% honest, because we become someone people come to for two to three hours to get their lashes done and decompress.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Lash and Brow Artist and I specialize in lash extensions and eyebrow sculpting. Most of my work is recognized for my lashes.

I am most proud of how quickly I became known for my work, Most lash artists don’t start seeing consistency until 6-7 months into lashing and my first fully booked out month happened 3 months into establishing myself as who am now in the industry.

I think what sets me apart from others is my determination and my genuineness. People attract to me because I care about getting to know them. I care about what they have going on in their life, good or bad. I care about listening to them. I care about supporting them and I care about showing them love. Also, my determination to succeed in every single aspect of life. I’ve always been told by fellow women that they see me as a role model. Especially younger women because I’m a prime example of following your dreams and just wanting better for yourself.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Looking back now, growing up I would refer to myself as a “popular loner”. People would always find me mysterious because of how I carried myself. When I spoke, I said a lot without saying too much. I was always on the lookout for the next thing that would put me in a better position than I was in and people admired that. Which is where most of my recognition comes from. Anything involving beauty has always interested me. I remember being in middle school and waking up two hours before school started just to do my hair and makeup. One thing about me was that my hair, nails, and makeup were always done. I was one of the first girls in middle school to get acrylic nails in 8th grade. Anyone who knew me growing up always asked me who I’d recommend and now those same girls recommend me.
