Conversations with Julie Coffin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Coffin

Hi Julie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always known I wanted to have my own business – to be my own boss, and make a meaningful impact, even if it’s just in a small way.

My journey began by simply recognizing my love for creating art at a young age. This led me to pursue a traditional path through college, where I explored my passions and graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with a degree in art and apparel design. This is what sparked my love for bold aesthetics and finding my personal style.

When the pandemic hit, I had been working in a corporate 9-5 setting for a few years and had owned a home for just under a year. I think this time in everyone’s life came with a realization that life as we knew it maybe wasn’t all we needed it to be. That was my experience, anyway. By working and spending most of my time at home, I decided to further my studies in multimedia content creation and communication – which I view as my start to learning how to create a multi-faceted online business.

During this ‘homebody’ time in my life, I found freedom in the basics. By immersing myself in cooking, hosting, and crafting a personal sanctuary within my home, I realized how much joy and fulfillment these activities brought me.

I thought to myself, “Just about everyone experiences these ‘adult’ undertakings, right?” My answer has been and still is, “Yes,” but maybe not everyone knows how to merge these basic ‘adulting’ tasks with self-expression. This made me realize that there are people who could use inspiration to create their own meaningful home spaces, and memorable gatherings through food, decor, and personal connections.

This newfound passion led me to start my lifestyle blog, where I share my best ideas for hosting your next themed party, wholesome and tasty snacks, and easy, budget-friendly DIY projects for making your home true to you. My blog is a reflection of my journey from design specialist to home enthusiast, offering practical advice and creative ideas rooted in personal experience.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like I mentioned earlier, my goal has always been to be an entrepreneur. In getting started with my business, I faced challenges of what that would look like…

With my professional background being in apparel and product design, as well as 2D art, graphic design, and communication, I’ve had a LOT of ideas – facing a LOT of choices in how I wanted to start my own business. I’d often come up with a new business idea to explore every couple of months over a few years.

By simply living through life, came an idea to just share my experiences with others. I thought, I know how to create content through writing, video, images, and fun ideas. So that’s what led me to blogging, and beginning my entrepreneurial endeavors.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work, I’ll admit, is a lot of things. As a blogger, there’s a lot of detail that goes into that – concepting what to share, how to create said concept, and taking the actions through storytelling in many settings (written, audio, video, photography, etc.).

The overall idea is to create content that transforms everyday moments into memorable experiences.

I’m most proud of the way my ideas help readers feel inspired to infuse their own unique touch into their spaces and events. I have a strong focus on blending functionality with creativity, ensuring that every suggestion is not only visually appealing but also achievable and enjoyable for everyone.

Honestly, in the future, I’m hoping this can expand to designing my own line of home products. My love for product design, which sparked through my career, will never go away, and I’m excited to see where it takes me. More to come!

What does success mean to you?
At the risk of sounding a bit cheesy, I believe success is when you’re happy.

I used to think that being happy meant loving what you do for a living. Now, I don’t disagree with that, but ‘living’ and ‘doing something for a living’ are, or should be separate. Different influences can help create happiness in peoples’ lives – whether it’s rooted in spacial, environment, social, etc. My hope is that anyone can define that for themselves and take action on it.

Keeping this one simple – happiness is key!
