Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin & Liz Spahr.
Hi Dr. Spahr & Liz, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Dr. Kevin Spahr and I (Liz Spahr) started the PRO Therapy journey together around 2014. At the time, Dr. Spahr had been treating in different settings since completing his doctoral degree in graduate school in 2008. He was quickly reminded about everything he loved within the world of Physical Therapy. But, also just how different the experience for patients could be based on the setting and parameters in place by each clinic. In some cases, it wasn’t about the patient. It was about how many in, and how many out.
He wanted more for those he treated and knowing we could give that…. we opened our first clinic in June 2016 in Northeast Minneapolis, MN. As a solo practitioner, Dr. Spahr operated out of a sub-leased, single room (just over 100 square feet!) within a multi-disciplinary clinic.
I have a background in marketing & business, so I would lend my experience to help grow our online presence and spread the word about everything we had to offer. We worked hard to build a patient-first experience, not just for the first couple that walked thru our doors…but, something that allowed that consistent framework to be applied then and with growth.
In 2017, we opened our second location in Coon Rapids, MN within another multi-disciplinary clinic. By November 2019, we upgraded into our current Northeast clinic location! Both locations provide a dynamic range of patients that we love and so does our team! We now have three full-time providers (Dr. Trent Napp, Dr. Brett Black and Dr. Kevin Spahr) as well as a Client Care Specialist that resides in our Northeast location, Sarah Schulte.
We adore the team we have in place; we couldn’t do what we do without them! We all have one thing in common – striving for excellence in patient care. It’s so important to allow the space for our patients to be heard, understood and educated by our entire team along their PT journey with us at PRO Therapy.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Owning a business will always come with challenges! I think Covid is the obvious answer for recent struggles. It hit everyone in different ways. We luckily kept our doors open the entire time as an essential business. We did everything we could to follow guidelines and protocols to keep everyone healthy but also consistent with their rehab journey. We did our best to adapt to patient needs as best we could, as quickly as we could.
Besides that, we are a husband and wife running a business revolved around serving others while trying to raise our 16-month-old daughter, Millie. I’d say that is our biggest challenge :). She keeps us on our toes and reminds us daily the importance of meeting others where they are at in their journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are best known for our ability to personalize care to each individual’s needs. We get to know our patients – we are genuinely interested in who they are and what they have going on.
We ensure each patient feels they are the only patient we are focused on for every single minute they are with us. We take our time to ensure they understand what is happening and why it’s happening. We produce results based on the work they are committed to with us, and we align with their goals.
We specialize in Physical Therapy from both rehabilitative and preventative perspectives. Plain and simple. Everything that entails. We work with patients to prevent further injury and/or prevent injury altogether! We specialize in focusing on keeping patients off pain meds and out of surgery.
We have the best team to do just that! From the first call thru last visit with our provider, each individual PRO Therapy team member our patient interacts with is dedicated to their health first and foremost!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Empathy.
We all can empathize with wanting to find a place that hears you. Truly hears what you’re saying. Not feeling rushed out the door. Not being just another person. Not having your interaction, feel all about a transaction.
