Conversations with Kim Hayes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Hayes. We are excited to share her story below:

Brad and Kim Hayes are excited to share their farm with you and your family. Alpha and Omega Farm is located on 38 acres in Princeton, Minnesota. We have many farm animals that call Alpha and Omega home.

Visit us for a relaxing getaway! We offer outdoor dining and delicious wood-fired pizza. Our wood-burning ovens heat up to 1,000 degrees so we are able to create a Neapolitan-style pizza with locally sourced ingredients.

Our alpha and omega farm mission is to  “create a destination to bring our community together”. We are a farm with a purpose and focus on utilizing local businesses, demonstrating hospitality and educating our future workforce.

We are known for our Sunday Goat Yoga sessions followed by wood-fired pizza.

Hosting events on the farm can include, corporate team-building, graduation, family reunions, and wedding or grooms dinner celebrations.

We are able to host up to 150 guests. Alpha and Omega offers unique charm and ambiance that will bring you back every season.

Our Summerhuis, a beautiful Scandinavian designed cabin, can be utilized for full or half-day meetings.

Kim is also available to facilitate customized team-building sessions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a small business is never easy. When we first began, we struggled with permitting. During COVID, Kim was laid off from her corporate Food Operation and HR role. It was the push she needed to make the move towards her dream of the “Pizza Farm”. Our first opening events were in October 2020. We hosted a fall festival with pizzas, live music and fun fall events. It was a huge success. The following spring we moved into our Thursday night events, goat yoga, fall festival and private events.

During this time, we have tried to impact the legislature to allow farm event centers to sell alcohol. This has not been easy, and we are still “trying” to impact our state government.

This past year we built and opened our new Summerhuis event space. We are booking this space for grooms’ dinners, private gatherings, holiday parties and corporate events.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
By day, Kim works at Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures as the VP of Talent. Brad is the operations manager at the farm(AKA farm hand) and does construction.

Kim’s passion has always been hospitality, 30 plus years working for Daytons/Marshall Fields/Macys in their food division. Her passion is people, which works well and allows her to blend her “day job” with the pizza farm.

Every Thursday night, you will see Kim training and encouraging her young team, all first-time jobs, and engaging with her customers. Kim has been dubbed “the talker”, because she loves to get to know people and share her love for local food.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The restaurant/food industry isn’t stable. Finding talent is difficult, but we’ve found that taking great care of our staff keeps them coming back. Sourcing locally sourced food products have been a focus for many years, and will continue to be a priority.  Some of our local vendors are Walker Farms for meat and butter, and the Zimmerman/Princeton farmers market for all of our produce.

We are still in search for a great goat cheese for our fainting goat pizza.

We invite you to come enjoy our little “slice” of heaven.
