Conversations with Kristine Wald

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Wald. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Kristine Wald

White Boxer Coffee Company was started in memory of Ares, the white boxer that Tallen and Kristine (owners) had since college. Ares drank/cleaned up spilled coffee while Kristine studied in college. Kristine worked as an overnight nurse while finishing a business degree. While working overnights, she drank a lot of coffee that was not of high quality and had no flavor. One of the assignments required for a course was writing a business plan for a future business. Since Kristine loved coffee, she wrote a business plan for a coffee company. Roll the clock forward, and the coffee business plan was started. White Boxer Coffee Company has added custom labels for sports teams, fundraisers, weddings, baby showers, corporate gifting, and blends for coffee shops. We love the creativity and requests of our customers and look forward to all the new customers we add in 2024! The White Boxer Coffee Company logo has many details that may not be known. Ares had a bright pink collar. So the logo is pink for her. The labels have a line with a boxer in a box. That is her collar with her in the middle and pink with a white, white boxer, pink collar. Look at the label; you will see it now. Fun fact! Everything from where we source our beans to shipping and delivering is family-focused!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
White Boxer Coffee Company started very small and has grown to have a new large roastery and is growing monthly with new customers! Since we roast what we sell within a short timeframe and rapid growth, forecasting and planning what we want to roast and blend based on historical data can take time and effort. Another challenge is how fast a new blend will be loved. The Lake Life Blend was added for summer 2023 for a nice sipping coffee while enjoying the MN great outdoors, but it has remained available year-round due to the love of this blend. This label is special as well. If you look closely at the boat, it says “Ares,” and the white boxer is driving it. She loved spending hours in the sun on the boat with us.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Another reason for starting the company? Tallen and Kristine have three small children who are very busy in athletics and academics and have huge aspirations in life. To teach their children the value of hard work, money, and responsibility, they worked to find jobs that the kids could do in the company. Our oldest, eleven, helps with all events, makes changes, handles customers’ questions, and is learning supply and demand and when we need to order more products. Our middle child is nine and does all the in-town deliveries. She brings the coffee to the customer’s door, shakes their hand, looks them in the eyes, and says thank you! Our youngest child, who is seven, places each label on the bags by hand. They are never straight, and that is perfect!
