Hi Kyle , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a sawmill, rough sawn lumber, and kiln dried lumber supplier based out of Central Minnesota. We started K & J Lumber to serve woodworkers, DIY hobbyists, and local homeowners with high-quality regional wood, and we also share our daily work and passion online through our YouTube channel, @kandjlumber. https://www.youtube.com/@kandjlumber
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth ride. Running a sawmill and supplying Remodelers / Woodworkers with quality kiln dried hardwoods involves navigating a lot of logistical and equipment challenges. We experience the same growing pains you would expect with any small sized company but we are dedicated to giving our customers the best local experience with that “Mom & Pop” feel.

Beyond supplying premium lumber to our local community, we treat our YouTube channel as a core extension of what we do. It allows us to give people a look behind the scenes of a modern sawmill operation and connect with woodworkers all over the world teaching them how to identify wood species and learn about the kiln dried hardwoods they use to build their projects. Between the Host Kyle (with Mustache) and the Owner of the company Kendal, we like to educate our customers to help them make informed decisions about their projects.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
For us, happiness comes from taking a raw log and turning it into beautiful, functional lumber that people can use to build their own projects. There is a deep satisfaction in doing physical, honest work and seeing the creative things our customers make with what we supply. It always excites me when a customer of ours sends us pictures of the finished projects they have completed.
