Today we’d like to introduce you to LIBIANCA .
Hi LIBIANCA, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with the art of music about 17 years ago when I heard my babysitter sing every second she was at my house. As I grew older, that love turned into singing, songwriting, and playing instruments by ear. Eventually, I was signed to a local label and became interested in the ‘studio’ scene. In recording sessions, I always knew what effects and fixes my vocals needed but couldn’t explain them to my engineer. I wanted to be the engineer, executive producer and the artist so I bought my own studio equipment and started engineering myself in my dorm room. As time went by, I learned how to mix & master my vocals and eventually, others. After failed attempts with managers, I realized that artists like me don’t need managers. We need CEOs. So my best friend, Yung M3tro and I created an agency with resources for creatives like us and opened up our hearts to create a family of artists, producers, engineers, cinematographers and models, and a DJ. While building the foundation for WestSide Creative Agency, I had the opportunity of bringing my gifts to NBC’s The Voice Season 21 and made it to the Top 20. That was a milestone for both the WestSide team and I. After The Voice, I came home and used all the knowledge I acquired on WSCA. I’ve been progressing as a CEO, artist, and creative director since then.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth in some ways. I’ve been sold empty words and dreams which led to over-independence. I also struggled with a lack of self-trust and anxiety. I was always too self-aware to do my best even on The Voice. But something changed along the way and I decided that my destiny is more important than my mind’s flaws.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent Afro and R&B/soul artist, a creative director and the Co-CEO of WSCA LLC. As I learn and grow, I make sure the creatives on my team do the same. West Side Creative Agency will be launching in July 2022 with an EP featuring WestSide artists, producers, and engineers and we’ll be celebrating with all fans and friends at our launching event including my new music releasing in August so I’m proud of that. Every musical arrangement speaks to me and I reply through the mic. All of my influences are present in my music and I believe that it creates a different world for the ears. I like to think I don’t need a therapist because I’ve got my voice, a pen, and paper.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think taking risks is inevitable regardless of the industry you’re in. As an entrepreneur and independent creative, I’ve had no choice but to risk something for something. In my sophomore year of college, I reached a threshold in my life. I felt like I had to pick school or music because my career demanded more time and so did my education and my job. so I decided to drop out of college until my career is stable enough for me to complete college.
