Conversations with Mariam Omari

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Omari.

Hi Mariam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
K’s Revolutionary Catering & More started nearly a decade ago with a deep love for food, community, and cultural connection. I co-founded the business with my friend and longtime collaborator, Chef K. Both of us had years of experience in the culinary world and a shared vision of creating food that nourishes the mind, body, and soul—while also honoring our cultural roots.

Our Stay Well Tonic—a turmeric-ginger tea—became a local favorite, and our custom menus earned us a reputation for being both creative and accommodating. From frittatas made with Just Egg for our vegan clients to culturally rich, gluten-free dishes, we’ve always believed in meeting people where they are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our journey hasn’t been easy. We’ve navigated housing instability, personal challenges, and the ups and downs of running a small business. But through it all, we stayed committed to our mission: serving wholesome, intentional food that reflects the diversity of our community. We built our business one meal at a time—catering community events, pop-ups, weddings, and everything in between—always showing up with integrity and care.

Eventually, we were able to purchase a duplex through our catering business, creating a stable base not only for our families but for our continued growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At K’s Revolutionary Catering & More, we specialize in creating intentional, wholesome food experiences that reflect the rich cultural diversity of our community. Our work goes beyond just cooking—we curate meals that nourish, comfort, and connect people. We’re known for our custom menu design, our signature Stay Well Tonic (a non-fermented turmeric and ginger tea), and our ability to show up for any event with love and excellence.

What sets us apart is our flexibility and deep commitment to our clients. We serve events ranging from intimate dinners of 10 to large-scale gatherings of 500, always crafting menus based on our clients’ unique needs, dietary restrictions, and budgets. Whether it’s vegan, gluten-free, halal, or culturally specific dishes, we make sure every guest feels seen and fed.

I’m most proud of the way we’ve built this business from the ground up—through challenges, with integrity, and always putting community first. We’ve turned food into a tool for healing, storytelling, and empowerment. That’s what makes K’s Revolutionary Catering more than just a business—it’s a movement.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We don’t really believe in luck in the traditional sense. For us, it’s more about energy. Energy doesn’t break—it just changes form. So we truly believe that what we’ve put out into the universe and our community is exactly what we’ve received in return. It’s a continuous cycle of giving and receiving.

Running K’s Revolutionary Catering & More has always been about leading with heart, showing up with consistency, and pouring good energy into everything we do—from the food we cook to the relationships we build. Our clients entrust us with some of the most important moments of their lives—weddings, baby showers, memorials, and cultural celebrations—and we don’t take that lightly. We honor that trust by approaching each event with care, gratitude, and intention.

So whether someone calls it luck or alignment, we see our journey as a reflection of the energy we’ve invested—one dish, one event, and one relationship at a time.
