Conversations with Mark McGinty (from The Band Lost Evidence)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark McGinty (from The Band Lost Evidence).

Hi Mark McGinty (from the band Lost Evidence), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lost Evidence is a Minneapolis rock band known for their chaos, chemistry and crunchy riffs. Built from the city’s gritty, guitar‑driven scene, and coming together through local jam circles and small‑venue gigs, they solidified their identity with their recent album “Exhibit A.” This 10-track release has defined their sound, mixing alternative rock with punk, grunge, and metal, and occasional melodic and bluesy turns aided by two backup singers. Driven by heavy guitar riffs, punchy rhythms, and provocative, sometimes sardonic lyrics, the band never takes itself seriously and always retains its sense of fun.

The band is comprised of 6 musicians, with a few fill-in members who play here and there.

Jorge Zapata – rhythm guitar, lead vocals
Mark McGinty – lead guitar and some vocal (when they make him sing!)
Matt – bass guitar
Charissa Blue – backup and lead vocals
Lupi McGinty – backup and lead vocals
Jason Matsch – drums
Ron Jiskra – also drums

Former members who contributed to Exhibit A include Trev Hawley on drums and vocals, and Tara Grimmer on bass guitar and vocals.

Exhibit A, served as a mission statement — a raw, DIY document of who they were and what they stood for — helping them earn a reputation as a tight, high‑energy act across neighborhood bars, mid‑size venues, and local festivals. Rooted in authenticity, loud guitars, and Minneapolis’s long tradition of no‑nonsense rock, Lost Evidence has carved out a distinct place in the regional music landscape.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a wild, energetic ride with a gig-heavy calendar that spans the state of Minnesota. With an underground music scene packed with independent local bands, Lost Evidence has found a niche on the local scene, from opening for touring acts to playing the bars and breweries, to the local music festivals. A few lineup changes and a seemingly endless revolving door of drummers has been the band’s biggest challenge, but it hasn’t stop their drive to perform live and to write, record and release new music regularly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Lost Evidence has released 3 full length albums, and two stand alone singles, with a third album in the works.

What matters most to you? Why?
From the beginning, our band’s identity centered on raw guitar energy, tight rhythm work, and a commitment to live performance over studio polish. Our songs are punchy, riff-forward and guitar driven, and we sing about themes of personal struggle, urban grit, and emotional resilience. Exhibit A quickly became the band’s calling card, helping us secure more shows, build a regional following, and establish themselves as a reliable, high‑energy act. Our live performances are known for tight musicianship, strong guitar presence, and a no‑nonsense, rowdy stage style that resonated with audiences who valued authenticity over theatrics.

While independent, Lost Evidence has carved out a distinct place in Minneapolis’s rock ecosystem. Their work — especially Exhibit A — stands as a snapshot of a band committed to craft, community, and the raw electricity of guitar‑driven rock.

They remain part of the city’s ongoing tradition of bands who build their careers from the ground up, relying on musicianship, local support, and the enduring appeal of loud guitars in small rooms.
