Conversations with Megan Patterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Patterson.

Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started taking photos in high school, my uncle was an award winning photographer in Fargo, ND and we would spend a week every summer at his house and playing in his studio that was next to his house. After high school I just did photos as a hobby and took photos for close friends and family. In 2022 I met my husband Steve Patterson, he really pushed me in my photography journey and in 2024 I decided to really make this my favorite thing to do. I am 95% all self taught. I learn as I go. I love to capture memories for others and hope they love what they see.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty easy, my name is slowly getting out there, I am grateful Lansing corners bar and grill let me use the inside of their building for some studio space, so I can do photos year round.

I am working with a friend to be able to offer videography for weddings and events and we are slowly working on adding those details into everything

My hardest part is finding time to get things done, working full time, having two dogs, helping my husband with Lansing corners bar and grill, and just life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My favorite thing about photography isn’t just about capturing images, it’s about capturing laughs, love, and creating life long memories, I like to get to know my clients so I can truly capture them at their best. My favorite type of photography is senior photos, family photos and weddings. What makes me stand out is that I don’t charge a crazy amount, I have set prices yes, but I always ask “what’s your budget, what can you afford” I work with everyone to get photos for them at what they can afford, i have never been rich, and I don’t think professional photos should only be for the rich, I want everyone to be able to afford photos, I like to volunteer my time to capture memories for special causes that mean a lot to me. And this year I am reaching out to the high schools to offer senior photos for anyone who can’t afford them for free.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being able to help people, I have a big heart and my love language as always been giving. Taking photos for people and working with them at what they can afford is how I like to give. I love hearing the positive feedback at the end about how much they love the photos.
