Conversations with Molly Kolbo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Kolbo.

Hi Molly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Rochester from Laramie, Wy with my husband and two little boys in June of 2019. I’ve always wanted to be an esthetician but never had the chance to go to esthetics school until we moved here. I attended Nova Academy of Cosmetology here in Rochester and enrolled in the Advanced Practice Esthetics course. I’ve always loved skin and skincare but fell even more in love with it while in school. From learning all the different facial techniques and equipment to learning about skin types, anatomy, and skin conditions, and mostly getting to know people on such a personal level while helping them relax while boosting their confidence. I truly found my calling in the esthetics industry. I graduated in February of 2020, right before the world shut down due to Covid so I had to put a pause on pursuing my dreams and stay home with my children while they did distance learning. When I was finally able to start working again I was given the opportunity to start my own business as a solo esthetician. It’s been a bit scary and stressful but also so fun learning the business side of this world. I really, truly love what I do and I’m so excited to share my passion with the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting my own business has definitely been an adventure. The most difficult part has been getting my name out to the world. Building a clientele takes time no matter who you are, but it’s definitely more challenging when you know only a handful of people in the city. I have to market myself on social media as much as possible while also relying on word of mouth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an advanced practice esthetician who specializes in skincare. I offer many different kinds of facials, chemical peels, enzyme treatments, dermaplaning, microneedling, and microdermabrasion. I strive to not only help you meet your skin goals but give you a space to come relax and feel safe and welcomed. I want my treatment room to feel like a second home for my clients.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
While my husband and I were both born and raised in Cheyenne Wy, we do have a connection to the area through my husband’s grandparents. They lived in Zumbrota where they raised my father-in-law and his siblings. His grandmother worked at Mayo Clinic and his grandfather was the athletic director for the Zumbrota high school where he coached the basketball, football, and golf teams. He even lead the football team in a perfect season in 1961.

  • My treatments range from $50.00 to $275.00
