Conversations with Paige Prestigiacomo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Prestigiacomo.

Hi Paige, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I always loved food. When I got my drivers license I remember being most excited to be able to drive myself to the grocery store and take as much time as I wanted walking up and down every aisle. For me, food not only fueled my body as a competitive swimmer, but it also fueled experiences, memories and connecting with others. I decided to combine these two passions and become a registered dietitian. I now work with athletes of all levels to properly fuel their bodies and reach their highest potential.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It had always been my dream to swim at the collegiate level and I truly believe fueling myself in the proper way helped me get there. However, after my sophomore year season, our school went through a series of budget cuts. The swim team was no longer being funded. This sport had been a part of my life for over ten years and suddenly it was taken away. I knew in order to feel my best mentally and physically, I needed to create a new outlet for myself. After a few months of planning, I founded a triathlon club on campus. It was a way to connect with other students, meet friends and stay active. Even after I graduated the club has continued to grow!

I look back on that experience and know I could feel bitter that my sport was taken away from me, but that’s life. It’s not the last time something won’t go the way I expected. Because that door shut, I was able to open more doors than I ever could have initially imagined. I was able to found an organization, meet new people and even intern with sports dietitians that advanced my dream career that led me to multiple opportunities. When one door closes, another will open even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a dietitian, I specialize in performance nutrition. I work with athletes of all levels from middle school, high school, college, elite and even week warriors. I love connecting with individuals who are looking to take their training and performance to the next level and value nutrition as a vital piece of the puzzle. Being a college athlete and someone who continues to love movement, I relate with every single individual I work with. Not only do I get to know them as an athlete, but also as a person and who they are outside of their sport.

What makes you happy?
People are always surprised to see a dietitian eating pizza or ice cream. I love sharing with others that all foods can fit into a healthy balanced lifestyle. Food is not good or bad, it is all food that nourishes our body in different ways. My passion is to inspire people in the kitchen, get creative, bring family and friends closer together, and get excited about everything from delicious desserts to tasty vegetables. Helping people create healthy and sustainable habits they can carry with them throughout life is what drives me in the field of nutrition and performance.
