Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Bell.
Hi Rebecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Meet Rebecca Bell founder of rb LEGAL, a woman-owned law firm built on the belief that legal support should feel human, grounding, and deeply compassionate. Attorney Rebecca Bell has been serving clients, first in Golden Valley, moving to St. Louis Park in 2025, expanding to a second office in Wayzata the same year. Rebecca is a graduate of Mitchell-Hamline, earning the school’s Alumni Award of Merit.
The seeds for Rebecca’s legal career took root when she accompanied her grandfather to a downtown law firm to have his will drafted. Sitting behind a gleaming desk, the attorney talked about what an important man he was and how fortunate they were to engage his services. This experience spurred something in Rebecca that motivated her to become a lawyer with the goal of a client-centered practice. What began at her kitchen table as a single mom with a mission, has grown into a trusted team of eight – all guided by a simple philosophy:
Listen First. Solve Second. Care Always. ™
From estate planning and elder law to small business support, Rebecca and her team lead with empathy, clarity, and collaboration, helping clients navigate life’s meaningful transitions with confidence and peace of mind. They also enjoy a niche practice in equine law and customized Pet Trusts.
In addition to serving their many clients, Rebecca and her Team have presented on topics of How to Talk to your Parents about Estate Planning, How To Avoid Costly Mistakes in Estate Planning, Estate Planning for Smart Women, Elder Law Issues, Small Business Succession, Funds for Fido/Pet Trusts, and Equine Legal Issues at a variety of venues. They feel that educating clients help them make better decisions for their futures.
Rebecca has been quoted in the New York Times in September 2024 regarding Pet Trusts; she was also quoted in the Minnesota Star Tribune in September 2020. She is the author of the article “Pet Heir” for Bench & Bar magazine’s December 2017 issue.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growth creates chaos and vice-versa. This is something every entrepreneur knows, and lives every day! Chaos is challenging. You have to navigate it to move forward. It’s sometimes-oftentimes-a challenge, but worth it in the end.
Building a successful business is more than just hiring, it is learning to lead. I’ve made some hiring mistakes and I’ve learned to hire more slowly. Once you find a person who is a great cultural fit, then training, listening, and leading. In my opinion, leadership is different from being a boss; it isn’t always natural or easy. I’ve had to learn leadership skills. Also learning what motivates some and not others. Once you have a team, you continue to train culture. Each new team member brings something to the table. We rise together with a common goal.
Also I’ve given myself permission to outsource things that I’m not good at, like accounting and billing. These are two critical things for a business, but I’m not good at them and take twice as long as a professional. The business owner needs to focus on the highest and best use of the their talents and time. I can do any job in my firm, which is important, but the majority of my time needs to be on what I do best.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
rb LEGAL is known for taking care of our clients. Last year 44% of our clients were former clients who came back to us for additional help. That speaks volumes. Last year 18% of our clients were referrals from former clients. They trust us to help their friends and family. The caring concern, the education, the on-going relationship with our clients are part of who we are. We are blessed to have such wonderful clients.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have a family group that has acted as my Board of Directors and sounding board, giving me frank advice and emotional support. I have a great business coach, Barbara Zuleger with Performance Partners Coaching. She has guided and supported me, and my Team, for years. I learn from my Team Members, my clients, other attorneys, other professionals.
