Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Wilbur.
Hi Samuel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Samuel Wilbur. I started playing guitar when I was 16 years old because I was obsessed with The Beatles and I have been writing and recording music in various bands for the last 24 years. I started putting out a solo album every year once I turned 30. Each year the music and the production value improved. I got to meet new musicians and connect with awesome producers and engineers around Minnesota.
I write about the frustrations of living in America through late stage capitalism and the global climate crisis. My newest album, Ivory Tower, reflects on the rise of the billionaire ruling class doing everything in their power to make sure they remain in power, and keep the rest of us distracted and divided.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Music is my passion, I feel a compulsion to write and record music and get my thoughts out there. I feel like I have something to say that is worth listening to. My goal is for people to hear the music and connect with hit. It has been challenging to build a fanbase outside of my amazing friends and family. I invest a major portion of my salary as a public school teacher into recording and producing my albums each year. My dream is to make it my full time career some day, but right now, I have yet to move beyond a handful of monthly listeners.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a high school social studies teacher in Minneapolis Minnesota. I love workin with the youth because they keep you young and inspired. Outside of school, I specialize in writing and recording music with musicians from around the world. I am a prolific songwriter. I’ve written and recorded over 250 songs in the last few years. I’ve worked with multiple grammy nominated artists and made life long friends in the local Twin Cities music scene.
I am most proud of my new album, Ivory Tower. It was recorded across 4 continents with amazing artists. The themes on the album are prescient and would provide catharsis for anyone who is overwhelmed by the baseline level of dread that accompanies living in modern day America.
