Conversations with Sanni B.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sanni B.

Hi Sanni, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Whew! Let me see if I can break it down as simple as possible. I’m the child of a Nigerian immigrant who was deported around the same time my mother had a mental breakdown. I lived in foster care until age 19 when I moved out on my own. I worked my way through undergrad and finished with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Art. My goodness how I’ve used that Art Minor! As for my Psych major, I plan is to continue my education by returning to grad school to get my Master’s in Clinical Psychology and yes I am most certainly going to get my PsyD. It was the plan all along. I made this goal when I was in foster care because I was disgusted with the medical care I witnessed my Mother receive regarding her mental health. It was abysmal to say the least. I always wanted to grow up and do something about it but that takes money doesn’t it? Everything takes money!

Let’s get back to that Art minor shall we? After graduating college, my foster mom and her friends were encouraging me to become a licensed social worker since they can access, diagnose, and treat patients just like a therapist could. They said it was an amazing opportunity because the state paid for it. I knew it wasn’t because that’s not what I wanted to go to school to study. I wanted Psychology. Always have. I stuck to my guns and took a break from Psych and dug deeper into my ‘Artsy’ side by accepting a scholarship to The Broadcast Center that I won through Brown College back in 2009. I moved to St. Louis to attend and then returned to MN to volunteer at KFAI. I then got a volunteer gig at KMOJ where I hosted a show overnights from 2am to 5am Monday through Friday. It was called ‘The Overnite Blend.’ I used to do this segment called ‘Nite Court’ where I’d share all these wild legal cases and people LOVED IT! I volunteered at KMOJ for about 2 years before leaving to work at Evine LIVE. I was also simultaneously volunteering at SPNN (St Paul Neighborhood Network) while I was at KMOJ, and I also hosted a few projects with TPT and am still an on-call host. I eventually stopped volunteering there to focus on my work at Evine and TPT.

I stayed at Evine for a year and then got a job at MyTalk 107.1 where I currently work as a Producer and Host. Before MyTalk, I applied to The Current but was denied as they went with another candidate. A year later, that same candidate left Minnesota to pursue other opportunities and that’s when they called me back for the gig. I now co-host a weekly show called “The Message” that airs at 10pm every Wednesday night, and I also host on Wednesdays on Purple Current. Purple Current is a stream dedicated to the life and legacy of Prince. In addition to my work in Radio, I am also a voice artist. I’m about to do audio description for a the BET Original “American Gangster: Trap Queens” and I’ve done the same work for the show called “12 Dates of Christmas.” (If you ever want to hear my voice, use the ‘audio description’ option on your streaming services). Ok. The last Artsy thing I do is cutting & styling hair. I am a Licensed Barber in the State of Minnesota. I work at Ultimate Touch Barbershop on the Eastside of St. Paul. I have over 20 years of experience with naturally coiled hair, but as a Barber, I am also trained to work with a variety of hair types including straight and wavy. Not every Barber can say they’re comfortable cutting ALL hair types, but I can! If you take a peek at my social media, you can see that styling natural hair is definitely a calling for me. If you have Diva hairstyle tastes I’m definitely the Barber & Stylists you need. Finally (WHEW! I KNOW!) I am an Entertainer.

I call myself that because I do public speaking, I’m a radio host, I’m a dancer, and I’m a singer. I have 2 songs out right now including “Rock With Me” and “Dry It Up.” You can hear them on Spotify, Youtube, iHeart Radio, Apple Music, or you can listen on my website at cutiebootymedia.com/music. I will be performing them BOTH at a MLK Day Event 2022 that’s taking place in January at the Minneapolis Convention Center. I’m scared…but this is what I’ve always dreamed. And Mama nor Daddy raised no punk…like I said: I am the child of an Immigrant! WE HUSTLED CAUSE THEY HUSTLED! Well, that’s a brief version of my story thus far. I’m chronicling the rest on my social media so people can see me fulfill my destiny in real time. You can too! Follow me @cutiebootyceo and visit my website at CutieBootyMedia.com to keep up with me cause it’s a lot to keep up with!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yep. It’s been challenging. I just had a HUGE curveball thrown at me just last year during the pandemic when I got evicted out of the space that I had my boutique. Life doesn’t stop with the curveballs! You just gotta learn the basics of baseball or learn how to get hit by balls!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Entertainment. I truly believe it’s my calling. My name means ‘One Who Brings Sunshine.” Think about how much is lit by the sunshine. THAT’S A LOT! I love making people laugh and I love making people think ‘wait a minute…it’s gonna be okay,’ because I’ve needed people like that in my life and I know EXACTLY the impact those lil moments of service can have on folks.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
You mean to tell me ya’ll read all that and STILL wanna work with me? LOL! I’m honored. No seriously, if folks wanna work with me they can reach me at [email protected]. You can support my Barbering and Hairstyle business. I currently cut at Ultimate Touch on the East Side of Saint Paul at 928 Arcade street.

Also please support all things CUTIE BOOTY MEDIA!

I just secured my trademark for it this year and we just added a customer service line at 1(833) 501-CUTE for the Boutique because orders have been coming in lately and I want to be ready for success! Remember I told you about manifesting? I also ask that you support my Magazine…it’s called “The Cutie Booty Magazine” where we provide content that focuses on the inner workings of Women we perceive at ‘Cute.” You can read it at cutiebootymedia.com/magazine.
