Conversations with Sara Mora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Mora

Hi Sara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am an immigrant rights activist. One day I decided to share my story of being a young undocumented student with dreams of being a diplomat. I shared my story to the president of costa rica and that decision to speak out led to the beginning of a turning moment in my teenage life. I am a digital strategist, global speaker, company advisor and content creator. One day I dreamed of my career and today this is who I am. I am a rising senior studying political science and international comparative politics. I will be entering law school the semester after my graduation. I dream of comprehensive immigration reform so that the reality of the state of migration could be one in which an immigration status does not have to mean living in fear or feeling defined by the government as less worthy. One day I was just a girl in high school wondering how I could help serve my community and today I am a community leader. I decided to share my story and it led me to finding the power in my voice. I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica and grew up here in New Jersey. Migrant rights are not just a USA issue but also a global issue that is not shown to be globally critical on all platforms.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most of my life I have worked pretty hard to follow my dreams. Some of my struggles have been being the person with the least education, difference in socio-economic backgrounds of those around me and advocating for an issue that I am directly impacted by whilst perhaps those around me were not.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an immigrant rights, a global speaker, a company advisor, a content creator and a rising senior studying political science and international comparative politics as well as a student assistant at The John Watson Institute for Urban Policy & Research. My focus is migrant rights at the intersection of my roles whether its supporting the development of community involvement or creating content that centers access to information or resources to support migrant community. All my roles are human rights centered with a focus on migrant rights.

I am most proud that one day as a teenager I found my voice and fought to continue speaking despite all barriers presented in education, financial or in connection to advocating as part of an underserved community.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned that it is important to know your purpose and to believe in your ability to transform the world for the good despite what may seem impossible or difficult.
