Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Boley.
Hi Taylor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After nearly a decade working in the interior design industry, I found myself craving something more personal. I had spent years learning the ins and outs of design and watching spaces transform, but I wanted the freedom to create in a way that felt entirely my own. So, I took the leap and started Boley Design Studio.
For me, design has never been about creating a space that simply looks beautiful. It’s about creating a home that feels like you. I’m drawn to interiors with personality, unexpected color, vintage pieces, playful details, and that perfect mix of old and new. I love when a room feels polished but never too precious, layered but still livable.
Starting my own studio has given me the opportunity to approach design with that philosophy at the center. I get to work closely with clients, really understand how they live, and turn their homes into spaces that feel both beautiful and deeply personal.
I especially love designing for real life. Homes filled with kids, pets, dinner parties, everyday messes, and all of the little moments that make a house a home. I believe the best interiors aren’t necessarily the ones that follow every trend; they’re the ones that tell a story.
After years of designing for others, starting my own studio has allowed me to tell mine.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The beginning wasn’t always easy. Building a business takes time. Finding client and establishing a steady rhythm was slower than I expected. I have also had to learn how to be more than just a designer. Balancing creative work with the responsibilities of being an owner, managing finances, and all the behind the scenes details that come with running a studio.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Boley Design Studio specializes in eclectic, colorful, and highly personal interiors designed for real life. I’m known for mixing vintage and modern pieces, unexpected color, and playful details.
What sets my work apart is the belief that your home should have a point of view. I’m not interested in creating spaces that could belong to just anyone. i want each room to feel distinctly connected to the people who live there. I am especially passionate about designing functional homes for young families.
I am most proud of creating interiors that feel joyful, lived in, and completely unique to my clients.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve always believed that the best design happens when you’re willing to take a risk. I’m not afraid of color, pattern, vintage pieces, or an unexpected combination that might not make sense on paper, but somehow makes a room come alive.
Some of my favorite design decisions have come from trusting my instincts: choosing a bold wallpaper instead of playing it safe, embracing a color that feels a little unexpected, mixing decades and styles, or giving a vintage piece a place of honor in an otherwise modern space.
Starting my own design studio was a risk in itself. After nearly ten years in the industry, walking away from the security of working for someone else and building something with my own name on it was both exciting and terrifying.
I think taking risks is part of what makes design (and life) interesting. I’d much rather create a home that makes you feel something than one that simply feels safe. To me, the most memorable spaces are the ones that have a little bit of courage behind them.
