Conversations with Tillana Chakraborti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tillana Chakraborti

Hi Tillana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
South Asian Women’s Network is the premier organization for South Asian professional women in the Twin Cities. We welcome the unique voice and experience each one of us brings and celebrate our shared success. Like any great adventure, SAWN began with a simple question: “What if?” What if professional South Asian women in the Twin Cities had a dedicated, inclusive space to cultivate meaningful connections and support one another’s growth? While women in the diaspora often meet socially, I noticed a gap when it came to an organization focused on our professional development. Thankfully, the idea was embraced by family and friends, and here we are today—SAWN has recently (2024) achieved 501(c)(3) status, and our vibrant community of incredible women continues to thrive!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There weren’t any specific obstacles, but the true challenge lay in maintaining resilience over time. The journey has been long, and we have more work ahead of us to fully achieve our vision of becoming a widely recognized organization with far-reaching impact and influence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a product portfolio marketing leader with P&L responsibility, specializing in the healthcare sector. However, my true passion is in the work I do being the founder of South Asian Womens Network, its my labor of love. Recognized for my innovative problem-solving abilities, my superpower is my ability to collaborate across functions and levels, aligning teams around shared goals, and fostering diverse perspectives. Colleagues often describe me as a dynamic leader who builds trust, motivates, and inspires high performance within my teams.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I find the greatest fulfillment and happiness in positively impacting others’ lives, whether through my nonprofit organization or directly. The sense of satisfaction that comes from making even a small difference in someone’s life is truly irreplaceable.
