Today we’d like to introduce you to Abi Teeters
Hi Abi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into photography began in high school when I joined the yearbook team. I discovered a passion for capturing people and events, and I loved seeing those moments preserved at the end of the year. As my interest grew, my friends and family noticed how much I enjoyed photography, and I started getting hired to take senior portraits and family photos. It was an amazing introduction to the business side of photography.
In college, I studied marketing and graphic communications with the dream of working for a magazine, blending my love for photography and layout design. During that time, I began second shooting at weddings with other photographers. I instantly fell in love with capturing couples’ love stories and the emotion of their wedding day—a day filled with so much thought and meaning, surrounded by their closest loved ones.
When I graduated, I decided to take a leap and pursue my photography business full-time as a wedding photographer. Shortly after, I expanded into photographing elopements and intimate weddings. These experiences have been especially meaningful to me because they allow for deeper connections with my couples.
What I love most about elopements and intimate weddings is how personalized they can be. Couples have the freedom to design a day that truly reflects them—whether it’s traveling to a dream destination, celebrating with only their closest people, or spending time on activities they love doing together. It’s such an honor to capture those deeply intentional and heartfelt moments.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One obstacle I faced was transitioning my business when I moved from Wisconsin to Minnesota. Even though it wasn’t a huge distance, it required me to shift my focus and build a stronger client base in Minnesota so I wouldn’t have to drive 4+ hours every weekend for weddings. I still work in both states, but my primary focus is now in Minnesota, which has been a much better fit for me and my business.
On top of that, many of my weddings and elopements are now destination events across the U.S. and internationally, and being near an international airport has been a huge help in making travel seamless.
I’ve always been a go-with-the-flow kind of person, so when challenges arise, I know there’s always a way to work through them. I try not to stress too much and instead focus on finding solutions, whether that’s in my business or while navigating unique wedding day situations. It’s all part of the process
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a wedding and elopement photographer specializing in capturing intentional, heartfelt moments for couples who value connection and authenticity. My work goes beyond simply documenting a day—I strive to tell my clients’ unique stories, focusing on the emotions, details, and connections that make their wedding or elopement truly theirs.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my couples place in me. Whether it’s a large wedding or an intimate elopement in a breathtaking destination, I’m honored to be a part of such meaningful moments in their lives. I’m also proud of the relationships I build with my clients—it’s not just about showing up with a camera but making them feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated.
What sets me apart is my ability to create an experience tailored to each couple. I’m flexible, go with the flow, and handle unexpected changes with ease, helping my clients stay present and enjoy their day. I also have a deep love for adventure and unique settings, whether that’s hiking to a secluded spot for vows or capturing a couple as they jump into a lake at the end of their session. My passion for these authentic, unscripted moments is reflected in my work, and it’s what keeps me excited to pick up my camera every day.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that I’m close to the Twin Cities without having to live IN the busy city, but having access to it for meeting up with friends, clients, and going to events on the weekend is amazing. I also love how many amazing local restaurants and cafes there are in the area, Maple Grove is known for being the restaurant capital of Minnesota and I always love trying new places. It’s also super convenient to live so close to an amazing international airport for personal and work travel. I wish I lived a little closer to places more out in nature, but it’s hard to get a combo of nature + access to the city at the same time. I guess that’s what a flight to the mountains is for!
