Today we’d like to introduce you to Abisola Sole’ Jaiyesimi.
Hi Abisola Sole’, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started creating Shea butter blends to relieve my eczema and dry skin about 7 years ago. I then began sharing my blend with loved ones who also were dealing with eczema and or dry skin. My Shea butter blends worked wonders for my skin and helped to heal my eczema. I also received positive feedback from family and friends that I shared my product with. The idea of sharing a natural and wholesome product with the world gave way to the start of Sola’s Butters. I have been the proud owner of Sola’s Butters, LLC since 2016. I began selling Shea butter blends but have since expanded to other skin and hair care products including hair oil to essential oil based hand sanitizers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were several bumps along the road, from not having the right consistency that I wanted in my product to having issues with finding cost-effective labeling, packaging and quality ingredients. Initially, when I started Sola’s Butters I also believed I was not afforded certain opportunities because I am a small business owner and a woman of color.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would say that I am a social worker by day and a creative at night. Creating is second nature to me I love cooking, painting and creating products. Most people who know me know that one of my passions is living a healthy lifestyle which is inclusive of, but not limited to, diet, exercise, spiritual and mental wellness. These to me, are all forms of self-care. As the saying goes “Health is Wealth” and although it can be challenging at times, I deeply believe in using and consuming substances, both externally and internally, that are healing to the body. To date, I would say that I am most proud of my Sola’s Butters Business. When I painted what is now seen as the Sola’s Butters Logo many years ago I had no idea it would be the symbol of my own business today. I am proud to contribute natural and wholesome products to the community that people enjoy and feel good about using.
