Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Berg.
Hi Adriana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Adriana Berg. I am from Duluth, MN, and currently attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. My passion for photography began when I got a camera for Christmas in middle school. From then on, I was always taking photos, whether with friends, of everyday life, or forcing my sister to model for me. I took many photography classes and began to improve my skills. I started my business, Adriana Photo, four years ago when I started getting requests to take photos for family and friends. I realized I loved every aspect of having a photography business and began to invest more time and energy into Adriana Photo. Over the past four years, I have done sessions for seniors, families, couples, weddings, teams, and more. This summer, I wanted to take my business a step further. I reached out to my cousin Andy Berndt, a fellow Twin Cities photographer, who gave me insight and advice into how he has created a career out of photography. I launched a website and fine-tuned the details of what I wanted Adriana Photo to be. I have had more inquiries than ever before, and I am excited to see where my business goes.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, every endeavor has obstacles, especially being an entrepreneur. My biggest obstacle began when I moved to Minneapolis for college. I was beginning to make connections and build a network in Duluth when I moved to start school at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. I felt like I was starting over again, and didn’t even start to promote myself as a Minneapolis photographer until this summer, over a year since I had been living on campus. I booked a few sessions in Minneapolis this past summer, but I quickly realized that building a network in a new city takes time and hard work. This fall, when I am not busy studying, I will spend most of my time advertising and promoting my business in the Twin Cities area. I have learned that all good things take time, and even when it doesn’t work out right away, it’s worth it to keep going.
I specialize in portrait photography, with a niche in High School Senior Photography. I am known for capturing the moments between the poses: the laughs, real smiles, and the subject’s candid self. I am proud of the senior portraits I captured for my sister this summer. After photographing her for my entire life, it felt like a full circle moment knowing how far we had both come. In addition to that, I am very proud of my work ethic and drive to never stop improving my photography skills and business.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
As a photographer, most of my time on the job goes into editing. I utilize Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to perfect my photos and bring them to life.
