Today we’d like to introduce you to Aileen Kill
Hi Aileen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Kai Ganda Creations started during the pandemic, a time when so many of us were looking for ways to redirect our energy. For me, that outlet became creativity. It all began with me making macramé coasters for my own home. What started as a personal project quickly grew into a passion, and before I knew it, I was sharing my creations with the world on Etsy.
The name ‘Kai Ganda’ holds great meaning to me. It’s inspired by the Filipino phrase ‘Kay Ganda,’ which means ‘So Beautiful,’ a reminder to see the beauty in both the world and in ourselves. To make it even more personal, I adapted it to “Kai,” as a way to bring a piece of myself into the brand right from the start. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have a strong support system of family and friends who encouraged me as I honed my craft. One of the biggest moments for me was getting the chance to showcase my work at a local shop in downtown Hudson, WI. That was where I truly began to grow as an artist and connect with my community.
At the heart of Kai Ganda Creations is my deep passion for celebrating Filipino artistry. I’m so grateful for platforms like Etsy that have allowed me to share my work with people from all over the world, and connect with those who share my love for creativity. For me, this journey has been about more than just making products—it’s about building a community and finding joy in doing what I love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building my business has been a journey filled with both highs and lows. It started as a hobby—a place for me to express my ideas and explore my creativity in my spare time. However, as my passion grew, so did the business. That’s when I realized I had to shift my focus and step up my game. Juggling this with my full-time corporate job has proven to be quite challenging, to say the least. There are days when time feels like it’s working against me, and transforming my ideas into tangible products can be difficult with such limited hours.
Like many creatives, I also face moments where inspiration feels hard to come by. There are times when I hit a creative wall or struggle to come up with new ideas, and it can be frustrating. But what keeps me going is the reminder that this is part of the process. It’s in these moments of challenge that growth happens.
What has truly helped me throughout this journey is the incredible network of makers and crafters I’ve connected with. Whether through craft shows here in Minnesota or various networking events, I’ve been fortunate to meet so many people who understand the journey. Being part of a community of creators who share the same passion and face similar obstacles is incredibly inspiring. It serves as a constant reminder that, regardless of the challenges, we’re all in this together, learning, growing, and creating every day.
In the end, it’s these connections and the passion behind what I do that keep me moving forward, even when the path isn’t always clear. The journey may be tough, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the creator behind Kai Ganda Creation, and I truly believe that crafting is more than just a hobby for me—it’s a passion that fuels my soul. From a young age, I’ve had an undeniable love for making things with my hands, and macramé quickly became my creative sanctuary. There’s something incredibly special about turning simple threads into intricate works of art. I create everything from wall hangings and coasters to ornaments and little decorative pieces, and each one tells its own story. For me, the magic lies not just in the design, but in the love and intention I pour into every single detail—from how I craft the piece to the care I put into packaging it. When someone receives a creation from Kai Ganda, I want them to feel like they’ve unwrapped a moment of joy, thoughtfulness, and connection.
Macramé has always been my heart’s work, but I’ve also embraced new creative challenges that have pushed me to grow. Recently, I’ve ventured into making crochet stuffed toys, and it’s been such an exciting experience! Watching yarn come to life and transform into these little characters with their personalities feels like magic. It’s a joy to see them take shape, each one unique and full of character. I’ve also started painting watercolor blank cards, blending my love for crafting with fine art to create pieces that feel both personal and meaningful.
What excites me most about this journey is that it’s never static. Each project opens up new possibilities, inviting me to experiment and push the boundaries of my creativity. And that’s what keeps my work fresh and inspiring—not just for me, but for the people who connect with it. The growth I’ve experienced along the way has been incredible, and I’m beyond excited for the future.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always fueled by a deep curiosity and a desire to create. I found magic in exploring the outdoors, but I could also lose myself for hours in crafting, building with Legos, or solving puzzles. There was something incredibly fulfilling about bringing ideas to life with my own hands—whether it was building something from scratch or discovering new skills along the way. As a child, I was a bit shy, and in many ways, I still am, but the time I spent with my family gave me the space to experiment, learn, and grow. Their support sparked a lifelong passion for creation and innovation. It taught me the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone, embracing new challenges, and always pushing myself to try something new. That mindset of exploration and growth continues to guide me today, both in my personal life and my career.
