Daily Inspiration: Meet Aimee Yang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Yang.

Aimee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Beloved Florals came into existence during a time that was very difficult for many of us. As my family and I were trying to navigate through the pandemic, I wanted to be able to do something that could bring a smile to someone’s face or brighten their day even just a little. I have always had a love for flowers and how they can instantly light up a room, change the mood of a space or even make a person feel so loved when they receive them and so I just simply wanted to be able to share that joy with others. I started by designing and creating small arrangements for the first couple of months and that was really enjoyable for me. I loved hearing back about how my arrangements made someone’s day. About 6 months into the business, I booked my first wedding and it was the most exciting yet most nerve-racking feeling ever! I wanted to make sure that I made that wedding the most beautiful that I can for what most likely would be one of the most memorable days of my clients’ lives. It was a big task but I was up for the challenge. Although I was nervous about my first wedding client, I learned so much from the experience. It taught me how to navigate unforeseen challenges, mixups and problem-solve on the spot. It gave me an opportunity to explore and learn new skills that I can apply to future clients and to give them the best experience that I can give. Through all of the learning curves in running this business, I would not and could not do it without the wonderful support of my family and friends. They continue to affirm me and encourage me to go for my dreams and never give up. I’m still learning every day but it’s been so fun and I can’t wait to see how Beloved Florals will grow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For me, every new endeavor comes with its challenges and obstacles that I feel are necessary in order for me to grow in my craft. I don’t think anything comes easily and it really does take a lot of work and commitment to be able to be in a place where one can feel like one has accomplished what one has set out to do. I still consider myself pretty new to the industry, so I feel like I’m still trying to figure things out every day and everything seems to be a challenge. But I also appreciate the challenges because it has pushed me to think about things that I wouldn’t necessarily think about in order for me to run and do my business well. I would say though that one of my biggest struggles from the beginning and still to this day is comparing my journey to others. Sometimes I see other small businesses and I feel like I’m so behind and I get discouraged because I just start comparing where I’m at with where they are and wondering if I should even continue. But as I have mentioned before, I have a great support system and they continue to bring me back to a place where I have to take all those thoughts and turn it into something positive and use it to do my best. Another challenge that I have encountered is finding ways to be an eco-friendly florist. My hope for Beloved Florals is to be able to provide beautiful pieces but still, be an environmentally conscious business. Sometimes, this takes thinking outside of the box and finding creative ways to design. That in itself has been a challenge but once it’s executed, I feel very accomplished.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a florist located in the Twin Cities. I create and design floral arrangements ranging from vases and bouquets to events such as weddings and funerals. I’ve loved and enjoyed all the different floral arrangements that I’ve created but I think my favorite so far would have to be the greenery chandeliers that I created for a wedding last year. It just made me fall in love with the greenery and how something so simple can elevate a room so much. One thing that I strive to do with my business is to provide beautiful arrangements but still be eco-friendly. I have tried doing this by going foam-free, sourcing my flowers locally and use packaging that is recyclable and reusable. I love when I can find packaging and containers that can be used for multiple purposes. One thing that I am most proud of on this journey is that I went out of my comfort zone and pursued a passion of mine. I am so proud of myself for taking a chance and for not being afraid to try. It has definitely been a good learning experience. I think what sets me apart from others is that I strive to create arrangements that are organic in feel. Almost as if it’s been picked straight from the field and put together specifically for the person that receives it. Every arrangement is unique. Not one is exactly like the other.

What matters most to you? Why?
I’ve already mentioned my family but I really would not be where I am today without the unconditional support from my family. They are the reasons why I started this journey. They are my motivation to keep persevering through the hardships of growing a business. They are the ones that I continue to work hard for. I would not have been able to do something that I was passionate about without them.
