Daily Inspiration: Meet Amber Carlton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Carlton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thank you for having me.

Professionally, I’m a Fargo, ND, Moorhead, MN, Lakes Area, MN based REALTOR® and Luxury Collection Specialist with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Premier Properties, and I’ve been serving clients since 2012.

From the beginning, my focus has never been about transactions, it’s always been about relationships. I truly believe real estate is one of the most personal industries there is. You’re not just helping someone buy or sell a home, you’re guiding them through a major life moment.

My background in customer service naturally led me into this career, but what’s kept me here is the opportunity to build long-term relationships and be a trusted resource for my clients over time. Many of my clients become lifelong friends, and that’s the kind of business I’ve always wanted to build.

At this stage of my career, I’m really focused on growth in a different way, expanding my impact, building a strong foundation for my team (Carlton & Co.), and continuing to elevate the experience I provide.

Personally, I grew up in Breckenridge, MN, I was raised by a single mother who was my world. She was a cancer survivor who loved fiercely. Although she had meager means she did everything she could to give me the best life possible. She passed away when I was seventeen. She will always be my inspiration and my hero.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth, and that’s what’s shaped me the most. I doubt you will ever meet a successful person that says it was a smooth or easy process. You grow and learn when you fail. It was never supposed to be easy.

Professionally, in the beginning having faith and pursuing my dream without a safety net of any sort was a huge challenge. Now one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance a high level of ambition with sustainability. I care deeply about my clients and my work, and for a long time that meant saying yes to everything. Over time, that leads to burnout. This is something I am going through right now. It is wild to wake up one day and realize ten years of your life have gone by and outside of planned events you haven’t given yourself one single night off! What got me here won’t get me to where I want to go. I am now learning how to set boundaries, build better systems, and trust others to support me as I grow. Hiring and stepping into leadership in that way will be a learning curve, but also will be one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. The challenges have been necessary. They’ve helped me become more intentional, more self-aware, and ultimately better at what I do.

Personally, I have poured my heart and soul into building my business. Now I am focused on scaling to allow myself to focus on the things that matter most in life while still taking excellent care of my clients. I have ambitions of having a family of my own and spending more time doing what I love with the people I love.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I do goes far beyond buying and selling homes. I see myself as an advisor and a guide. Every client’s situation is different, and I take the time to understand not just what they’re doing, but why they’re doing it. That allows me to help them make decisions that align with their goals. I’m also very focused on their experience. From marketing and strategy to communication and follow-through, I want every client to feel taken care of at a high level. At the end of the day, I’m not here for a single transaction; I’m here for the relationship long after the closing.

I am most proud of the business I have built and my self-growth. I wouldn’t be where I am today without commitment to my faith, gratitude, morning routine, nutrition, workout routine, self-growth journey through coaching, and the Masterpiece group I am a part of.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe strongly in investing in your growth. Paying for coaching and mentorship has been incredibly valuable for me; it will give you direct access, accountability, and accelerate your learning in a way that informal mentorship can’t. I would recommend a coach or mentor who will help you with your life and your business, as one can’t work if the other isn’t okay. My coach is Dr. Tiffany Johnson, and I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a high-level mentor or coach.

Regarding networking, the most meaningful connections have come from showing up consistently as my authentic self, being curious, and engaging with people I respect. What’s worked best is focusing on my own alignment, surrounding myself with people who value integrity, growth, and relationships. That’s where the strongest, long-term connections are built. You want to find your people, not everyone will align with you, and that is perfect!

Pricing:

  • Real estate pricing can vary widely depending on the property, market conditions, and level of service, so I approach every situation individually. For sellers, I focus on maximizing value through strategic pricing, high-level marketing, and strong negotiation. For buyers, it’s about helping them make smart, informed decisions in a competitive market. My goal is always to provide value far beyond the cost; through guidance, and expertise from start to finish.
