Daily Inspiration: Meet Amy Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Johnson.

Amy Johnson

Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved doing hair and make-up. On many different occasions, I had looked into going to cosmetology school at none other than Aveda. I didn’t finally go until I was 28, in 2011, and I loved it! At that time, I went through a tough time in my personal life, and because of that, it took me a long time to graduate, and I never really did anything with my license. My dreams of working in the beauty industry seemed to be over. Around 2014, I started hearing about permanent make-up, and I was instantly intrigued. I love tattoos and doing make-up, so it seemed like a perfect match. Starting your own business is very expensive, though, and I was scared I’d spend all the money on school and not do anything with it as I did in cosmetology school. In 2021, I finally took the plunge and had enough money to start my dream again. I researched different schools and apprenticeships. I decided on the MN Brow and Lash Academy. I have never second-guessed my decision. I love what I do, and my only regret is that I didn’t start sooner. I now have my suite inside “Infinite Beauty” in Brooklyn Park. I work with three amazing artists who are super talented.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. I started school and stopped a couple of times. I went through a tough time in cosmetology school, so it was hard to be there. I also dealt with addiction problems, and that got in the way of me being successful in hair. I had always dreamed of having a business, but I was always getting in my way. I got sober in 2017 and never looked back. I started saving money and was finally ready in 2021 to start school again, but this time for permanent make-up. I did my apprenticeship and started “Your Beauty Never Fades LLC” in 2022. I love what I do and couldn’t be happier with my career.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a permanent make-up artist. I do microblading and powder brows. I also tattoo eyeliner and lips.

I do permanent make up, which is cosmetic tattooing. Although it’s considered a “tattoo,” permanent make up is only semi -permanent. This means touch ups are needed every few years.
The services that I offer are, microblading, powder brows, eyeliner (top & bottom) and lip blushing.
I’m going to further my knowledge and get trained in nano-brows, which are hairlike strokes that are added to the brow, but not with a microblading pen, it’s with my tattoo machine. These brows are great for any skin type, and I’m super excited to add it to my menu soon!!

Pricing:

  • Brows start at $450 (shading is extra)
  • Eye liner starts at $375
  • Lip blushing starts at $400
