Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashley Prom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Prom.

Hi Ashley , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Teeny Town Playground was created by two families who share a passion for early childhood development. Between us, all but one of our team members work in the preschool industry, where we noticed that imagination and open-ended play seemed to be fading. We wanted to create a space where children could learn, explore, and create through play.

We decided on a small town because it allows kids to step into everyday roles, mimic what they see their parents and community workers doing, and use their creativity.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many small businesses, one of our biggest challenges was balancing the dream of opening Teeny Town with our everyday responsibilities. We all work full-time jobs, so much of the planning, building, and preparation happened on evenings, weekends, and days off.

We also built much of Teeny Town ourselves with the help of family and friends. From creating the play spaces to putting together the details that make the town feel special, it was truly a labor of love. There were plenty of long days and late nights, but seeing our vision come to life made it all worth it.

As a newer business, another challenge has been spreading the word and helping families discover what makes Teeny Town unique. However, watching children engage in imaginative play and hearing positive feedback from families reminds us why we started this journey in the first place.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Teeny Town Playground is an indoor play space designed to spark imagination and encourage child-led play. What makes us different is that we didn’t just create a fun place for kids to play—we designed it through the lens of early childhood education. Between us, all but one of our owners work in the preschool field, and we used that experience to intentionally create a space that supports creativity, social interaction, problem-solving, and real-world learning.

Our town includes a variety of storefronts and community spaces, including a doctor’s office, schoolhouse, diner, fire department, and more. Kids can ride pedal cars and scooters down Main Street, explore different roles, and create their own adventures. There are no screens, no set instructions, and no right or wrong way to play—just opportunities for children to use their imagination.

What we’re most proud of is seeing kids become completely engaged in play. Families often tell us they love how spacious the environment is and how many different ways there are for children to explore. Hearing kids make up stories, work together, and stay engaged for hours reminds us exactly why we created Teeny Town.

At its core, Teeny Town is about bringing imagination back and giving children a place where they can learn, explore, and simply enjoy being kids.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time at my family cabin. Some of my best memories were made there being outdoors and spending time with family. so many memories were made there, family fish fry, fishing. 4 wheeling, playing night games with the cousins, making forts in the woods and so much more.

What makes it even more special is that those traditions have continued. We still go to the cabin as a family, and now my daughter gets to experience it too. She often talks about how it’s one of her favorite places to go, and seeing her create her own memories there has given those childhood experiences an even deeper meaning for me.
