Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubree Nelson.
Hi Aubree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been working as a RN for the past twelve years, anywhere from working in the ER to Bone Marrow transplants in pediatrics. COVID hit and I took a Crisis COVID contract in Los Angeles during the height of COVID, I brought my two kids with me; we stayed with family and traveled away from my husband for 5 months to work as a RN on a COVID unit at Cedar Sinai in LA. To say those five months weren’t tough would be an understatement but here’s where the flowers came in…when my contract ended and I came back home I knew something needed to change to save my mental health. I ended up listening to a podcast where Gary Vee was being interviewed, he was giving business advice; his biggest recommendation was to focus on what gives you butterflies and then try to make money off of that.
The first thing that I thought of was the flowers, at that time I loved gardening all things and I thought I would try and sell flowers from my backyard. Little did I know, there was a different plan for me, I did my first wedding and I FELL in LOVE! I love working closely with my brides, sharing Pinterest pictures, making their vision come to life and being part of their special day! I feel so lucky to be one of the few people that are able to see my brides when I deliver their flowers before they walk down the aisle, I don’t take their time for granted on their special day and to see their face light up when they see their flowers never gets old. I’ve now lost count of how many weddings I have actually done over the past four years but I still love being a wedding florist and working close with these beautiful couples. Fun Fact, I ended up in People Magazine last September for my wedding florals! I currently have bookings throughout 2026 and I am so excited to continue this journey!
After multiple brides asking me if I pressed and preserved bridal bouquets after their special day, I started venturing into flower preservation in 2022. Guys, this is a process and it took me a solid year to figure out how to save flowers and I just fell in absolute love with this! So I added this service onto my business!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing my own business has been filled with ups and downs the past four years, filled with so many positives and learning curves. I would say the most challenging part is all the different roles you have to fill while owning a small business and time management. My favorite part is working with the flowers and designing but when it comes to invoicing, emails and creating content it definitely has been more of a learning process. Owning a small business where all of my products are handmade, you really have to juggle it all and I have been working fulltime as an Registered Nurse throughout it all. None of these adversities would have been possible with out the support of my husband, building gardens in our backyard, building a flower room in our garage, loving on our kids while I’m doing weddings across the nation. His unwavering support made my dreams tangible, he is my best friend and this was ALL possible because of his support. You really only need one person to believe in you and your dreams, that one person can change your world, he’s mine.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My focus is on all things wedding florals, from being your wedding florist on your special day to pressing and preserving your flowers after! I love creating and designing, I focus on the details of my art and truly want it to be everything my clients picture.
I am really proud of my perseverance these last four years, working full time as a nurse and managing a flower business. I think what sets successful people apart is perseverance, not that I have more experience or that I am more knowledgeable but I’m willing to do the long days and the late nights because I truly love this! I think my clients appreciate my attention to details, my quick responses, my flexibility to work with them on their vision and I try to bring them along during the process by posting updates on social media.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I have used QuickBooks throughout my business journey, it really helps me stay organized when it comes to invoicing and the financial side of things. I have really enjoyed the community that I have created on Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook. I follow like minded influencers, fellow creators, successful business owners and artists! I love uplifting other business owners and promoting their art, bouncing ideas off of each other or referring clients to each other! They really inspire me with other creative ideas, methods or technics to improve my work!
