Daily Inspiration: Meet Ben Pauley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Pauley.

Hi Ben, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into jewelry started long before I ever made my first ring. As a child, I was fascinated by gemstones, minerals, and rocks, and I spent years building collections and learning everything I could about them. Around the age of 12 I discovered blacksmithing and quickly fell in love with the art of shaping metal with my own hands. What began as a hobby grew into a passion, and over the years I developed my skills working primarily with steel.

When I was about 20 years old, a friend approached me with an unusual request. He was getting married and asked if I would make the wedding bands for him and his fiancée. There was just one catch, I had never made rings before and he wanted them crafted in silver rather than steel. I have always enjoyed a challenge, so I accepted.

Creating those rings required countless hours of research, experimentation, and learning. Fortunately, my mother had studied jewelry making in college and became an invaluable source of knowledge and guidance as I navigated the process. By the time the rings were finished, I had discovered something I truly loved. The precision, artistry, and attention to detail required in jewelry making captivated me in a way that blacksmithing never had.

Word spread among friends, and before long I was creating wedding bands for others. Then came another pivotal moment: designing and crafting an engagement ring for my girlfriend, who is now my wife. While I had made many rings by that point, I had never worked with gemstones. During that process, I had the opportunity to learn from several highly skilled and successful jewelers whose mentorship played a significant role in shaping both my abilities and my approach to the craft.

From there, my knowledge and skills grew rapidly. The more I learned, the more passionate I became about creating meaningful, one of a kind pieces that would mark some of life’s most important moments. That passion ultimately led to the creation of Golden Loon Designs. With the help of my friend Ben Brown, I officially launched the business in November 2025.

Although the business is still young, it represents years of learning, craftsmanship, and dedication. Every piece I create is an opportunity to continue growing as a jeweler and to create something truly special for my clients. I am incredibly grateful for the journey so far and excited to see where it leads next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has been a valuable learning experience. Since I started my business in November 2025, one of the biggest hurdles has been building awareness and establishing a reputation in a highly competitive industry. As a new business, earning trust takes time, especially when you’re creating custom, high end pieces that are deeply personal to each client.

Another challenge has been finding the right clientele, people who not only appreciate fine jewelry but also understand the craftsmanship, artistry, and countless hours that go into creating a truly handmade piece. In a world where mass-produced jewelry is readily available, part of my job is educating clients about the value of custom work and what makes a handcrafted piece special.

That said, seeing clients receive a finished piece that was designed and created specifically for them makes all of the hard work worthwhile. Each project helps me grow both as a craftsman and as a business owner, and I look forward to continuing to build a reputation for quality, integrity, and exceptional craftsmanship.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a custom jeweler specializing in one of a kind, bespoke jewelry handcrafted in gold and platinum. Every piece begins with an idea, sometimes a sketch on paper or a vision that takes shape in my mind. I personally carve each design in wax before casting, fabricating, and finishing the piece myself.

In an industry that increasingly relies on CAD design and 3D printing, I take a traditional approach. Every piece I create is individually hand carved, which means no two are ever exactly alike. Because of this, I don’t maintain inventory or produce jewelry in batches. Each piece is made specifically for the person who commissions it.

I am especially passionate about creating unique engagement rings, wedding bands, and gemstone jewelry that showcase exceptional diamonds and colored gemstones. I consider myself a perfectionist, and I take great pride in the craftsmanship, detail, and durability of every piece that leaves my bench.

What sets me apart is the experience I provide. My clients aren’t choosing something from a display case, they are part of a collaborative creative process that results in a piece of jewelry that is uniquely theirs. I believe jewelry should tell a story, celebrate a milestone, or capture a memory, and my greatest pride comes from creating heirloom-quality pieces that will be cherished for generations

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would encourage people to think differently about jewelry. The pieces we wear often represent some of the most meaningful moments in our lives, and I believe those moments deserve something made with intention, care, and craftsmanship.
One of the greatest privileges of my work is taking an idea or a story and turning it into something that can be treasured for generations. To everyone who has trusted me with those important moments, thank you. Your support allows me to do what I love every day, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
