Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Sarbacker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
2015-2016: Started making gaming YouTube videos my junior/senior year of high school, grew my YouTube channel to 1,500 subscribers before I went to college and stopped uploading
2016-2019: In college at Iowa State, I did a lot of lil business ventures (clothing company and marketing agency) but started making TikToks my senior year of college
Fall 2019- Summer 2020: Made a bunch of Viral TikToks, graduated during covid and moved to Minneapolis, started growing a network of meme accounts summer of 2020 and started posting to reels which got my Instagram career started
August 202-April 2021: Kept making and experimenting with content, got involved in podcast production and started consistently posting to my own podcast.
May 2021-November 2021: Moved to LA to work at a content house called GO House as House Manager, YouTube Producer, and Podcast Producer (all while growing my accounts)
November 2021-Feb 2022: Content house ended, and lived with family members debating whether to stay in LA or do something else. Decided to move back to Minneapolis.
March 2022-present: Currently doing Social Media full time (TikToks/Reels, Meme Accounts, Podcast, YT Channel), Podcast production for Straight Candid Podcast (local Minneapolis podcast), and running sound promotion campaigns for music artists.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Monetizing as a creator GO House was not run well and I wore a lot of hats discipline, consistency, and not succumbing to shiny ball syndrome Managing a Team of Virtual Assistants.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make videos on the internet to entertain people. I build meme accounts to help grow my brand and promote music for artists. I produce podcasts and podcast clips that go viral.
I’d say I specialize in going Viral. I have a pretty good understanding of how it works and how to get creative with social media to do things most people aren’t even thinking about doing
Most Proud of the position I’m in and the courage my past selves had to pursue content creation and pursue it consistently. I know all of the past versions of me would be proud if they knew I’d be where I’m at right now, but I also know I’m at where I’m at right now because my past self was putting in the work.
What set’s me apart is that there are a lot of good creators and a lot of good business people, but I’ve found there are very few that are good at both. Not saying I’m the best by any means, but definitely have a leg up cause I have experience in both.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
A mix of Curiosity and Consistency.
