Daily Inspiration: Meet Bree Weller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree Weller.

Hi Bree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been an esthetician for about 11 years. I started nursing school and quickly realized I loved working with people and making them feel good, but I didn’t have a passion for the medical industry. While in nursing school, I worked as a receptionist at an old Elizabeth Arden salon in downtown Minneapolis. I was obsessed with playing with products and learning everything beauty related. I grew up with only brothers and a tomboy mom, so I wasn’t exposed to anything like that. That’s all the taste I needed. I then switched to Saint Paul College and went to school for esthetics. After graduation, I explored makeup artistry by working for a few cosmetic counters and realized I am not very good at retail when the only goal is to sell. I then worked for a few salon jobs and worked with such amazing people I was able to grow so much as an esthetician. I was eventually branching out on my own and renting a cozy little room at Pre’mo Salon. I never knew I’d love being a business owner. Yes, it’s a lot of work but so worth it.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road. I started down many paths I thought I wanted to go down, only to realize that it wasn’t for me. But I am glad I did. It’s made me learn so much about the industry and myself. I also was a single mom raising my now 19-year-old son. The beauty industry is rarely full of benefits and does not have the security of a 9-5 job. So changing careers was always tempting, but at the end of the day, I feel like I am where I belong.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a solo business esthetician specializing in Lash Lifts, brow shaping, threading, tinting, and makeup services. I will also be offering facials by the end of the summer. I am most known for my natural approach to all my services. I like to accentuate and define instead of lots of drama. Don’t get me wrong, drama is fun, and I can do it, but natural beauty is more my style.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting?
Always be open to learning and never compete. The beauty industry is always changing, and you will love your journey if you surround yourself with a great group of positive peers. Even after 11 years, I am always listening and learning.
