Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Gilbert.
Hi Carly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
About 6 years ago, I was in college going to school for nursing while serving. Because school took up so much of my time, I wanted a job where I could make my schedule. I was lashing out of my college apartment for a year when it hit me that the beauty industry was where I was meant to be. A friend told me to get certified to do lash extensions, so I did. I left college, went and got my license for lashing, and also got trained in to do professional makeup. I have learned in the last 6 years that this industry has no cap. There is always room for growth. I am beyond blessed to have my own business and a very loyal clientele. Some of my clients have followed me every place I have been. I owe my success to them!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been anything but smooth! I think that is why I count my blessings every single day. I opened up my first studio in 2019. Three months later, I had to close my doors permanently when the world shut down. I felt like a failure. I sit here almost two years later with a new studio and a thriving business that has branched off in so many different ways. I am not only a lash technician, but I am a professional makeup artist now. Had things not happened the way they did, I truly do not think I would have had the drive to go above and beyond my comfort zone. I’m very thankful for the lows. They made the highs that much better.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in eyelash extensions and makeup applications. My days never look the same. Some days I am in my studio applying lashes all day, and other days I am with bridal parties or on the set of a photoshoot. What sets me apart from others is that I will bend over backward for every client. I will make anything work for them no matter what! It makes me feel good that they can trust me, and I know it makes them feel that they are my main priority.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
Honestly, TikTok and Instagram are where I have learned the most. I follow artists that I aspire to be just like. I take the tools they give out and apply them to my job every day. They have taught me so much.
