Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Jah
Charles, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ten years ago, I picked up a camera for the first time, not knowing it would shape the way I see the world. At first, it was just a curiosity—something about capturing moments, freezing time in a frame, felt powerful. But the more I clicked the shutter, the more I realized that photography was more than just taking pictures; it was storytelling.
In high school, my focus started shifting toward filmmaking. I loved how motion and sound could bring a story to life in ways a single image couldn’t. I spent late nights editing videos, experimenting with angles, and studying the craft of visual storytelling. That passion earned me a scholarship to study filmmaking in New York, a city filled with endless inspiration.
College was an intense but rewarding experience. I honed my skills, worked on film sets, and learned the technical side of storytelling. But even as I immersed myself in filmmaking, photography remained my constant. Whenever I had a free moment, I’d roam the streets with my camera, capturing candid moments, striking compositions, and the raw energy of the city.
After graduating in 2020, I found myself at a crossroads. The world had changed, and so had I. I started focusing on writing, crafting movie scripts that had been lingering in my mind for years. At the same time, I realized I wanted to develop the photography side of my brand—to refine my voice and build something uniquely mine.
Photography and filmmaking have always gone hand in hand for me, two sides of the same creative vision. One captures stillness, the other movement, but both tell stories. And as I continue this journey, I know my lens will always be my way of seeing the world—one frame at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been obstacles. Sometimes it’s hard to create. Not just bc u aren’t passionate enough but also lack of surrounding yourself with the right creative people.
I personally, the only struggle I face day to day is how much I judge my work and tell myself “I’m still not good enough yet” it’s harsh but it makes me push myself more.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional director, filmmaker and creative director. As of recent most people know me as a photographer because that’s what I’ve decided more time to.
On the side of be a professional photographer; I’m in the process of opening a modeling agency here in Minneapolis.
I think what set me apart from post people who do what I do is my social skills and passion for what I do. I love it and doing it is AWAYS fun no matter the conditions, time or place. My love for it and being able to create something beautiful and meaningful makes me very happy and proud.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think taking risk is part of the job but I’m also very calculated on what risk I take; if it’s necessary or worth it.
