Hi Cullen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has been shaped by my passion for design, business, and, of course, fishing. Growing up, my brother Vance and I spent countless hours on the water, which eventually played a big role in shaping our careers.
Vance founded Line Cutterz in 2014 after coming up with the idea for a safe, convenient fishing line-cutting solution. His invention took off, especially after appearing on Shark Tank in 2016, where he secured a deal with Daymond John. Around that time, I already finished my degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and had developed a strong background in graphic design and sales.
I officially joined Line Cutterz to help grow the brand visually and strategically. As Vice President and Lead Graphic Designer, I’ve worked on refining our branding, packaging, and overall product presentation, ensuring our innovations reach a broader audience. Over the years, we’ve expanded from just fishing gear to other industries like sewing, and automotive.
Today, Line Cutterz continues to grow, and I’m proud to work alongside my brother to bring new ideas to life. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited for what’s ahead!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any entrepreneurial journey, it’s been anything but a smooth road. While Line Cutterz has seen great success, we’ve faced our share of challenges along the way.
One of the biggest hurdles early on was scaling the business after our Shark Tank appearance. The sudden surge in demand was both a blessing and a challenge—we had to quickly adapt our manufacturing, fulfillment, and customer service to keep up. Finding the right production partners and maintaining quality control was a learning curve.
Another challenge has been expanding beyond the fishing industry. While our core audience is anglers, we knew our cutting technology had potential in other markets like sewing, and automotive. Breaking into those industries required a shift in branding, marketing, and product development, which took time and persistence.
Like any family business, working closely with my brother has had its moments. We’re both passionate about what we do, and sometimes that leads to different opinions on strategy. But ultimately, our strong bond and shared vision have helped us push through obstacles and grow the company together.
Despite the challenges, every struggle has been a lesson that’s helped us refine our brand and expand our impact. It’s been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Our store is more than just a retail space—it’s a hub for the fishing community, offering innovative Line Cutterz products, high-quality rods, reels, tackle, and kayaks tailored to local fishing conditions. What sets us apart is our passion and expertise, ensuring customers get personalized advice and access to exclusive products before they hit the broader market. I take great pride in how we’ve built a space where anglers can connect, learn, and gear up for their next adventure. Through community events, expert service, and a commitment to innovation, we’re not just selling fishing gear—we’re helping create unforgettable fishing experiences.
How do you define success?
For me, success is about impact, growth, and passion—both personally and professionally. At Line Cutterz Fishing & Outdoors, success isn’t just measured by sales numbers; it’s about building a strong community, helping anglers find the right gear, and seeing our innovations make a real difference in their fishing experiences. If customers walk into our store excited and leave even more excited for their next trip, that’s success.
On a personal level, success means waking up every day passionate about what I do, continuously learning, and pushing myself to grow. It’s about taking on new challenges, building strong relationships, and knowing that the work I put in is making a lasting impact—whether it’s through expanding the Line Cutterz brand, developing new products, or creating a welcoming space for anglers. At the end of the day, if I can look back and see how far we’ve come, while still being excited for what’s ahead, that’s true success to me.
