Daily Inspiration: Meet Dave Doeppel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Doeppel.

Hi Dave, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an award-winning Professional Photographer. Back in the 70s, I developed an unwavering passion for photography in the darkroom with 35mm film.

Throughout my creative career, I have helped countless fellow photographers hone their craft. I have also served as a Speaker at numerous National Photo Conferences, including but not limited to Shutterfest and Imaging U.S.A.

I’m very passionate about animal rescue and I volunteer with Animal Rescues including Safe Hands in Minneapolis. My focus in photography is now Pet Portraits. My goal is to make sure our furry loved ones don’t end up with only cell phone pictures.

I hold a multitude of certifications, including a Photographic Craftsman Degree, Certified Professional Photographer (Cr.Photog., CPP) and an Adobe Certified Expert in Lightroom and Photoshop.

When I don’t have a camera in hand, Dave can be found traveling with his wife Regina, or playing with his best friends, his rescue dogs. An avid student of life, he strongly believes that we never stop learning on our journeys and we should make it a point to learn new things every single day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been numerous struggles. In 2019 my family relocated to the midwest from Los Angeles. That was quite a change. We have also been fostering our niece who just graduated from high school.

So many changes in the photographer world. Everyone is a photographer and cell phones are really good. So many have lost all of their images because of technology failures. Educating clients on why professional photography is so important is key.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve photographed everything from Weddings to 50’s style Pinup and everything in between. I was pretty well known in LA as a pinup guy.

After relocating to the midwest my passion for rescue animals and dogs in particular grew. We have always volunteered and also fostered pups at our home.

This leads me to transition my photography business to focus on pets and pet portraits.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m a musician. Primarily a drummer but the last band I was in LA was as the lead singer. I have not played for a few years but always looking for the opportunity to get out and rock.
