Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Reynolds
Hi Haley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Around 2019, I was 23 years old when I decided my life needed to change. Without going into too much detail, I was going down a dark path. It was abundantly clear that I needed to make changes to have a happier and healthier life. Through making one small change at a time, I was becoming the version of myself I always wanted to become. I started taking a more holistic approach to living and gained much new knowledge about the toxins in our everyday products. We range from household to environment, from the food we eat to the skincare we use! When people discover something that betters their lives, they want to share it with whoever will listen! That was exactly me. I wanted to share all my new “witch doctor” magic with whoever I thought I could help. My skincare business started to help my friends and family with their eczema. I would make them what we used to call my “magic potions,” and their skin would get relief like no other product could give them. I used clean, natural, and effective ingredients, making their lotions by hand. The results were “life-changing”; their words were not mine. After a few months of doing this, I was told over and over again that I needed to make this a business. I thought they were being silly, but I was open to them starting to pay me for the lotions. Ha! Over time, I began to believe in the products (and myself) more and more, and now, friends of mine are asking me to make them this ‘special lotion.’
It became a delightful holiday tradition for me. For two years, I would market the lotions only during the holiday season on my Instagram. The feedback was overwhelming. Our lotions were not just aiding my friends and family with eczema, but they were also providing relief to people with dehydrated skin, stretch marks, sunburns, acne scarring, and keratosis pilaris. These common skin issues were being treated with all-natural ingredients! After that second year, I realized I needed to seize the opportunity these miracle lotions presented. I decided to put my full effort into getting these into as many hands as possible because I was aware of the transformative power they held in healing skin issues for people who had tried everything else to no avail. It was the power of natural ingredients, free from added toxins, that was making all the difference.
In November 2023, I finally did it. prettypeoplepop was an open-for-business skincare line. In the past seven months, we have grown faster than I imagined, so much so that the business is even being asked to be in magazines! *insert wink emoji here* Something I am truly honored to be a part of. Our list of skin issues our lotions are healing continues to grow. My favorite this year had to be helping a woman finally receive relief from the irritated and painful skin she was left with after her cancer radiation treatments. Those kinds of stories are why we do what we do. To be able to give someone relief from the most debilitating skin problems. It’s only a bonus that they also make a great daily, nontoxic lotion that leaves your skin like velvet for those lucky enough not to deal with such extreme skin conditions! Starting a new business has given me passion again, a feeling no words describe. I love what I do and cannot wait to bring more completely clean and safe products to our skincare line this year!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle so far has been myself. I could put myself out there and sell a handmade skincare product. What would people think? Truthfully, I am still a work in progress. Perfectionism and self-doubt have been, by far, the most significant challenges to our business. Over the past two months, I have felt an energy shift regarding what this business can become. And with that change in energy has come some of the most exciting opportunities our business has been given! Starting to operate out of a more confident mindset and giving that energy to the world has been rewarding and motivating to keep going. Keeping up with demand will become a challenge as we add more products to our line. It is an excellent problem to run into, and from there, I will have to learn how to scale this business.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been an entrepreneur, from when I was 12 years old, running a hot chocolate stand in my local grocery store parking lot, to becoming a certified babysitter through the Red Cross. I would print out flyers with my GPA and skills, then hand them out to anyone with a child in the grocery store, and then leave them on the dashboards of cars with car seats. This was before we could find babysitters on care.com! When I was 21, I started my lash extension business and had full books within months. It wasn’t until this year that I closed that business to take on my new skincare business full-time. This has been a significant leap in faith that I feel so genuinely good about. I have always loved helping someone feel beautiful. That’s a huge reason most people enter the beauty industry. I never felt pretty growing up; I wanted to hide more than I wanted to be seen. Going into the beauty industry allowed me to help others feel their best, which, at the time, was more than I could do for myself. Now, I get to help people feel amazing in their skin while mixing my new love for holistic things!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
Oh man, I have a full-blown list of podcasts and books that have changed my life, and I frequently share them with women! Ha! For anyone starting a healing journey, How to Do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePera was life-changing for me. I love Mark Groves, To be Magnetic, and The Ed Mylett Show for podcasts. Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday is also a favorite book of mine.
