Daily Inspiration: Meet Kacey Wyrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacey Wyrick.

Hi Kacey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been interested in photography. In high school, I was the girl who had a camera in my hand at all times and I was a part of the yearbook staff. I decided to pursue it as a career and got a degree in Photographic Communications! After college, I moved to Minneapolis and started working at General Mills as a photo assistant and junior photographer in the food photography industry but after a few years of that, I changed paths and am now a full-time wedding and portrait photographer. I currently shoot 35-45 weddings a year, as well as 75+ portrait sessions each year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a relatively smooth road. Deciding to go full-time was probably the scariest but most rewarding time in my career! I more than doubled my income the first year of being full time and it has only been better since! I think the worst part about being a business owner taxes, but that might just be because my brain is wired too hard the other way as a creative!

One of the most difficult challenges I find for myself is being able to step away from work. With my cell phone being with me at all times, it makes it challenging to not check my phone constantly to answer work emails and texts.

Also, working mostly every weekend of the spring, summer and fall make it tough to carve out family time! A lot of my work is happening when most of my friends and family are out having fun, so that makes it tough to miss big events like that sometimes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer! I specialize in weddings and newborns and I’d say I’m most known for having joyous, bright images.

I’m from a very small town in Montana and never did I think I would be where I am today! I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to capture such precious moments in people’s lives and I hold that very close to my heart. A ton of my clients are repeat customers and I pride myself on making a genuine connection with others and being able to capture their families for many years!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say the most important thing I learned along the way is to not give up. I had a dream at a very young age to be where I am today and I was and still am constantly pursuing that dream.

I also attribute a lot of my success to being myself. I think it’s easy to get caught up in hiding behind who people want you to be (especially with social media) but I’ve found that the more confident I am in myself and my work, that helps attract people similar to me and we really are able to create a special bond.

As for continuing to build my business, I think that being open to change and avenues that will help me expand my business is huge. Photography businesses rely on social media so much for client interaction and advertising! Learning how to get in front of a larger crowd that way (Instagram Reels, Tik Toks, etc.) and being open to the ever-changing trends is what will expand any business!
