Today we’d like to introduce you to Kameron Peak.
Hi Kameron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
“Rose From The Rough,” all started with a prayer, a dream, and a little faith. A small back story, so over the past several years I was always able to give people great ideas for starting their own businesses. I guess I have a natural gift for that, but I was never able to think of anything that I would be great at. See, throughout my childhood, I endured a lot coming from a domestic violence household. The trauma left me practically mute and extremely shy, I was in many different special needs classes, ranging from speech therapy to one on one tutoring. So though I may have overcome those crutches, it was always something in the back of my head that said I wasn’t good enough or smart enough to start my own business.
So fast forward to 2020, covid was in full effect. I kept thinking of ways I could give loved ones their roses while they were still here, not only for when they pass. But I still didn’t have a solution. So that night before bed, I was talking to God and somewhat complaining about why I couldn’t think of a business idea for myself and how no one else could give me one either. After my rant was finished I heard quietly, “Have you asked me?” So I began to pray, and by the time I was done praying, I asked what will I call my business. By the time I could finish my question, “Rose From The Rough” came out of my mouth. I said to myself there’s no way that is available, I hardly slept that night, turning with excitement. The next morning I checked and it was available I now own it on every mainstream platform.
The name is very symbolic of my life as well, rising from the rough situations of childhood trauma, mental illness, and addiction. My business isn’t just my business of selling aroma therapy, holistic healing products, and gifts, my business is also my testimony, a story of hope, overcoming, and inspiration.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is exciting, but it has had its hardships. I pay for a majority of all inventory out of pocket, I wish there were more funding/grants available for small businesses like mine.
Especially since inflation has affected everyone, it too has affected small businesses like mine that pride themselves on 100% natural products, those ingredients cost more and I don’t want to change the integrity of the product because I can’t afford the ingredients, so there are times where I might be out of stock on a particular product because of that. But I’d rather wait than give my customers a product that’s less than unfortunate that affects my business financially.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make handmade soaps, candles, novelty gifts, and sea moss (holistic healing). My soaps, candles, and sea moss are all small-batch made. That allows me to focus on the consistency and integrity of the product. I’ve always been known for my soaps, but lately, I’ve really tapped into the “sea moss” market with my sea moss gel. See the human body consists of 102 vitamins and minerals and sea moss consists of 92 of those. So not only do I sell it in its original form, I sell the edible gel and I also decided to implement sea moss into a soap bar as well, being that your skin is the largest organ on your body. I made sure my soap products are luxurious, nourishing, aroma-therapeutic, and aesthetically pleasing. I’m also very known for my rubber ducky bathtub scrubby soap bars, I scented them fruity pebbl’z, and I’m also very known for my fruity pebbl’z candle as well.
I have to say that I’m most proud of all of my products. Because I truly put my all into each and every one of them.
I’ve met many other creatives in the same line of work and aesthetically we were different. What sets me apart from others is my creativity, originality, drive, and my vision.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that some people might not know is that I played the violin for five years and it’s something that I might start pursuing again. I’m also a motivational rapper as well.
