Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Hayes.
Hi Kelly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Interior design has influenced my life for as long as I can recall-my grandmother’s house was the epitome of livable luxury. It was beautifully and thoughtfully designed but also livable. She never hesitated to paint my toenails on the dining room table, or serve coffee in her sitting room with cream carpet. She understood that a beautiful home must be livable. My father was a cabinet maker, millworker, and furniture craftsman and he instilled a love of heirloom quality furniture. My brother, Nate, has built and remodeled homes all over the country, and often invited me to be a part of his process. After working under the umbrella of other designers and design firms, the opportunity presented itself to start my own interior design & remodeling company, Carriage House Studio, and I jumped at the chance to bring beautiful and livable spaces to other young families.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nearly every day, I learn and grow; both creatively and professionally. I have found that embracing what I do well, and delegating the tasks that I don’t enjoy or am not good at, help ensure that the road is smooth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a full service residential interior design + build company operating out of the west metro (Minnetrista) and serving the greater metro area. I focus on interior spaces that are both polished yet practical, as I believe that Pinterest and magazine worthy homes are obtainable even if you have a hundred-pound dog, messy spouse, and serve red wine to your friends & family, like I do! To be honest, long gone are the days of interior design being unaffordable or reserved strictly for empty-nesters and bachelors. I exclusively source quality materials that will last a lifetime while maintaining the earth’s natural resources whenever possible. I do not believe in disposable furniture.
I get to partner with my brother (lucky guy!), Nate. As our Lead Builder & Finish Carpenter, he ensures that the installation of out project is done with the highest level of expertise and skill.
By working with our artisans and vendors, we build partnerships on a shared belief in unrivaled quality and sustainable practices. Searching the world for fresh influences, unique colors and unexpected silhouettes, we only work with partners who share these same values and beliefs. With an unrelenting focus on family-ours and yours-we are dedicated to designing a better world together.
Our services range from simple color consultations to full-service design & remodeling and everything in between. We really tailor our services to meet our client’s needs and wishes.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Though I grew up in Minneapolis, my family took yearly vacations in Big Sky, Montana. From car trips to Yellowstone National Park, to chilly ski lessons on Lone Peak, and looking forward to the playing in the pool with my siblings; we always had the best times together on our trips. Any time I am with my family, great memories are being made!
