Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Lovegreen.
Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began in 2011 after selling my share of our family business to my brother. Soon after I had a life coach ask me what I had or did that no one else does. The only thing I could come up with on the spot, was my journal my mother gave me when I was twelve years old. The initial entry was about my first whitetail deer hunt. After that magical weekend, I kept detailed notes of all my hunting and fishing adventures until I was thirty-two years old. I was sent away to go figure out what to do with that magical journal. It was then that I met an amazing lady named Alice Sizer who wrote and illustrated her own children’s books. She was so passionate about her work and insisted I had amazing stories that needed to be told. Saying no, to this very persistent lady, was not an option. So, I left that day and began something I never thought I would do, write children’s books. After the first book was written, the response was so overwhelming I felt obligated to continue writing. The award-winning “Lucky Luke’s Adventures” series is now sixteen books strong, and more are coming. Along this journey, I have found a deep passion for visiting elementary schools and firing the kids up about reading, writing and the outdoors. My unique outdoor theme, one of a kind books, and a pile of animal calls set the stage for an unforgettable experience for the kids.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It took me eight years to make a dime writing books. I had to stay determined, focused and look to God for a lot of help.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been gifted the ability to write books that kids can relate to. When a reader is following Lucky Luke, his sister Crystal or Dad on a hunting or fishing adventure they tell me that they felt like they were right there with us. The other cool thing, is I write books that reluctant readers love to read. And that’s awesome! As for my school presentations, I bring an energy and passion that the kids can’t hide from. I love firing kids up to read, write and enjoy the outdoors.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
The surprising thing about me is simply the fact that I wrote, even one book. I failed every spelling test in my life and writing was never something I was good at. This whole journey is a miracle and I am grateful everyday.
