Daily Inspiration: Meet KP Skizzo

Today we’d like to introduce you to KP Skizzo.

Hi KP, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
If you were to ask my mom she would tell you I started making music as soon as I could talk. From the age of two, I had always loved rhyming. Music is something I fell in love with when I was young. In 2012 my grandfather was diagnosed with liver cancer. the neighborhood I lived in Las Vegas Nevada was gang-infested. I was chased home from school in the eighth grade and shot at several times my mother quit her job Thursday and moved us to Minnesota the same Saturday to come to take care of my grandfather. When first moving to Minnesota I moved to Cloquet Minnesota and began playing sports ranging from football track basketball swimming and more while making sure every trip was fun and exciting along the way as I would freestyle for all my teammates. However, my mom was to her wit’s end with being in Minnesota and wanted to move back to Vegas when a family member in the Twin Cities asked us to give it one more shot and stay with them. My mom gave it a shot we moved the Stillwater where I met one of my current producers Jtc beats. See Jtc was already producing and making music for himself at home in his basement and asked me to come over and record something for the first time we did and from there music was no longer foreign.

Six months after releasing my first single I was opening up for Chris Webbie at first Avenue in Minnesota. It was a blessing and from there I knew I had it. Shortly after gaining traction from my music I had made a mistake and gotten into a physical altercation that could’ve led me to some serious jail time. For several months I was incarcerated but that did not stop me. I continue to write music and stay in touch with my producer and when I got out I got to the music harder than ever. I started competing in competitions throughout the Twin Cities and recording at Trap City studios with my current mentor big Homie AK. After going solo I was forced to learn the business side of music how to book my own shows how to promote myself pretty much just how to conduct proper business as an artist. For the next three years, I did nothing but study art. I started doing minimal shows going out less and even stopped hanging out with certain people.

It’s crazy how much that really helped I was able to find myself and who I was as an artist. In the past few years, I have opened up for or made music with some of today’s most known artists such as Migos Lil Pump Waka Flocka Montana 300 Baby Bash Tory Lanez Peezy and more. 2022 has been a big year for me as I have already performed at the SXSW music festival in Austin Texas and performed on South Padre spring break so with Trippie Redd in front of 74,000 people. In the upcoming months, I perform with Montana of 300 in McIntosh, Minnesota June 18th and the sotasound music festival at the river’s edge in Wisconsin. 2022 I hit the ground running and you can’t expect nothing but great music great vibes and positive energy from me in the future. I am currently working on an album with some of the hottest producers in Minnesota including Jtc beats and Fuego. With guest producer DJ Flipp. You can expect tracks ranging from hard trap to soft melodic R&B! Social media is my biggest project right now as I’m trying to build my following you can be sure to find my music and me on all platforms under the name KP Skizzo.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was struggling with Anger during the years of 2016-2020 and this caused me to lose a lot of business partners and friends along the way. However, I have rekindled most of those relationships again as I completely have grown as a person outside of music.

My father left when I was 2 so I feel like it played a huge role in my anger as a teen.

I reached out and found my father when I was 21 and since meeting my soon-to-be wife and finding that relationship with my dad I think something clicked.

Social media has always been a struggle for me. I don’t understand it I wish I did. I’m constantly growing on all social media platforms and I’m constantly engaging. I just don’t know what my viewers wanna see. Maybe this will help let them know I’m interested in engaging with them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a national recording artist from Las Vegas Nevada that currently resides in Paul, Minnesota. I write music and perform on stages across the US with artists from all over the world. I am most proud of my performance on SXSW this year 2022 as I made those moves happen for myself this year and conducted business on a new level as a artist. I think what sets me apart from others is how team-oriented I am. I wanna see everybody win and succeed at what it is they want to succeed in. For me, I feel that people see I genuinely wanna see them feel the same excitement I feel when I step on a stage. I truly want people to chance the dreams they have and if I can help them do that I do. So I guess to simplify my answer I would say my drive to not only make me better but the people around me better in and outside of art.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is the teacher that likes to teach the custodian that likes to clean. To me, money doesn’t define success. Happiness does. However, I feel like just because you doing what you love doesn’t mean you can’t dig deeper into what that is. Never settle because you can always upgrade what it is you are being successful at until you are the best.
