Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddie Maisch.
Maddie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been capturing moments in time worth cherishing for 5 years now! I started my photography hobby when I was a freshman in college, offering inexpensive/free sessions to help grow my portfolio. After about a year, my hobby became a side job and by my senior year it was much more! After graduation, I started a full-time position with hopes that one day my side job/hobby would become my entire career the way it was continuing to grow. It was about a year after starting my full-time position that I had to say goodbye to my coworkers to pursue a full position in my business! I am proud to say that it has been almost a year of running Maddie’s Moments Photography and Ghost Dog Media, LLC full-time with my husband and we love it! We wouldn’t want it any other way!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been lucky and the challenges and small bumps in our road have been minimal! We love what we do and we just take the small bumps with a smile and learn from them, so that we can continue to grow and be better for our clients!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer! I do everything from family (and extended family), seniors, maternity, newborn, all the way to wedding photography and videography! We are most known for our willingness to be flexible and our warm photos! We know that life is busy, so we do our best to be flexible with our clients! Our style also sets us apart from others! We have a warm photo style that is based on both candid and staged photos! We like to say, “let kids, be kids, and the magic will happen!” We are also known as the husband and wife duo team for our wedding clients! It is a two-for-one with us! We offer wedding packages that include both photos and videos! This offers a ton of pros for our brides and grooms, including pricing advantages and better-quality photo and videos! We are very proud of all of the moments we have captured and that many of our clients we have worked with more than once! We are so thankful for all of the clients that use us for all of life’s big events!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I think our best advice for someone starting out is to put your personal time in and build your portfolio and relationships with your clients! Some of my best clients are ones that I asked to model for me when I was just starting! They have supported me through thick and thin and have never questioned my packages as I continued to learn and grow my skill! I had such a drive at the beginning wanting to be better and wanting to learn more, spending late nights researching photographers I liked and ones I didn’t! This really helped me find “my style” and be creatively inspired within the industry! Something I wish I had known when I started would have to be the fact that you become very invested with your clients – it is something that I wasn’t expecting (BUT WOULD NOT CHANGE FOR THE WORLD)! This job is not for the faint of heart! Some days it is an emotional rollercoaster! In the morning, you could be working with a newly engaged couple and fell so excited! And in the evening you can be working with a family that is looking to capture moments with a grandparent that hasn’t been doing well. You smile with your clients and you also cry with them. They become family.
